To wonder what the point of threads are anymore

Dishwashersaurous · 21/02/2022 20:44

So, I use mumsnet for information and also to try and help people by providing information and guidance when I know about something.

I don't post all the time, only when I think that I can add value.

But it seems that four times out of five a thread gets zapped by HQ and everyone's helpful guidance and advice is lost

So album to wonder what the point of spending time and effort giving advice if it is going to be zapped.

I know what you mean. I can bet my life on any remotely interesting thread being taken down due to whatever reason! It's always the good ones too!

Cheekypeach · 21/02/2022 20:47

YANBU.

Anything that isn’t going the OP’s way get deleted.

Or anything that offends the left wing, champagne socialist ‘principles’ of MN users - for example the benefits thread today.

TimePoliceTeam236 · 21/02/2022 20:48

Yes it is always the good ones.

Lockheart · 21/02/2022 20:49

It's a forum, threads get deleted. If you're not happy about that don't waste your own time posting.

If you post, accept that you may be wasting your time.

If you don't like that, find another hobby.

Joinedforthis22 · 21/02/2022 20:49

I'm not sure why threads don't just get frozen rather than deleted, so stop people being able to respond but the info remains.

Dishwashersaurous · 21/02/2022 20:51

It's the loss of useful information in s thread which is annoying. So frozen would good

BearOfEasttown · 21/02/2022 20:51

Yes it really bugs me too!

As a pp said, just freeze the thread, don't bloody delete it. Even if it's a troll - posting for shits and giggles, coz they're bored, you can still get loads of helpful info.

I agree that that's where we're at.

What a ridiculous post. Confused

So shall we all just not post now on ANY thread, lest it be a troll/fake thread?

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2022 20:57

i don't think @Lockheart 's post is ridiculous. Just stating facts. Before diving in with advice, bear in mind if the thread gets deleted that advice will be gone too. And decide how upset you would be if that happened.

Poppins2016 · 21/02/2022 21:01

I agree.

I also dislike posts along the lines of "why on earth does it matter so much that you're posting on MN', 'couldn't you have searched for similar threads', etc.

I think people sometimes forget that there are real people with feelings reading their responses. The beauty of mumsnet is (or should be) that it's an anonymous source of support for all sorts of things, even (especially) the most mundane!

Can someone tell me if the thread where the woman is dating her friend's ex then started harassing the husband disappeared?

I was so invested that I was actually going to create a post to ask. Hopefully someone here knows?

Davros · 21/02/2022 21:07

The point of threads IS anymore

Apfelsaft777 · 21/02/2022 21:10

It qctually quite upsets me - I was once in the position where I was considering an abortion in difficult circumstances. Most posters were lovely but there were a number of posters mocking me and saying things like 'jeremy Kyle is that way >'. I was already extremely distressed which I explained to mnhq yet they outright refused to take the thread down. It's still on here somewhere. Yet others seem to be deleted at the drop of a hat.

LuckyAmy1986 · 21/02/2022 21:16

@Apfelsaft777 that’s awful

Walkingalot · 21/02/2022 21:39

@Apfelsaft777 - that's awful.Flowers I also requested a thread be removed as it had turned into a pile on, completely turned off track from what I was asking help for - I was refused but they did agree to move to 30 days only.

Dishwashersaurous · 21/02/2022 21:40

I guess it's also what you think the point of mumsnet is. To provide help and support to other women, or casual entertainment and cheap journalism.

Some people take MN much more seriously than others. Everyone is on here for a different reason. MN Talk doesn’t really have a ‘point’ that’s true for every member.

Yes it was removed due to "sock puppeting" or something like that . I believe the OP was using 2 different names to make comments. I was also quite invested in that thread 😕
2022newyearnewname · 21/02/2022 21:57

Ahhh so annoying! Thanks for letting me know Poppy.

I was waiting for the reverse or fake comment.
