Should I be feeling better by now? Antibiotics for kidney infection.

Got antibiotics on Thursday. Bladder pain much better but still getting some pain in my back. Also got a constant low level headache and nausea that comes and goes but is awful. I still feel wiped out. Upset stomach a couple of times too but maybe that's the antibiotics.

Anyone know if this is normal and I should wait it out, or if this is a sign that the antibiotics aren't working?

How long is the course, OP? I'd see how you feel once course finishes, and yes, nausea and upset tummy likely due to abx.

Thanks for replying. It's 7 days. I'm on day 4.

They tend to say with kidney infections that you should start to feel better by day 3 of the antibiotics. Did they send off a sample to the lab? Maybe you need a different antibiotic. I always get a sample sent off and have been put on different antibiotics a handful of times once the results come back.

No I don't think they did. Maybe I'll see how I am tomorrow.

Stressing about work - supposed to be back at school tomorrow but at this rate that's not happening.

What antibiotics are you on? I found out I was allergic to penicillin after I had it for a kidney infection. I also didn't get better and my kidneys swelled up so large they were pressing against my diaphragm. I couldn't breathe.

They put me on non-penicillin antibiotics and it cleared everything up.

Not saying this is your case, just something to look at if it's not better in a day or so.

I would speak the doctor purely because my dd1 had similar and they told me her urine didn't show any infection after she had antibiotics. Two days later she was in a&e with a severe kidney infection, was admitted and was on iv antibiotics. She was really poorly.

That sounds awful! I'm already allergic to penicillin but not severely. I'm on Cefalexin.

Thanks @CassieJumped. Your poor DD. I guess I'll know for sure by tomorrow whether I'm improving or not but will definitely call doctor if getting worse.
