to consider resetting a diamond ring that my mother has given me?

Recently, my mother generously gave me a diamond ring that my father had given her. However, I don't wear rings (as I fiddle with them and tend to lose them), it doesn't fit me, and I don't like the old-fashioned style (the traditional one stone in the centre, with a smaller stone either side).
It wouldn't cost much to have the ring dismantled, and the stones set in a necklace, which I WOULD wear.
If I ask my mum, she'll have conniptions so I'm thinking of just going ahead and doing it. After all, what's the point of keeping it as a ring which I can't wear?

Do it. I've done this with jewellery before and never regretted it. I don't see the point of just keeping it in a box, unworn - surely it's better you wear it and get some pleasure from it?

I think it’s a lovely idea and gives you something to wear rather than sitting in a box. I was given my grans wedding ring and a diamond ring, I wouldn’t have worn them as they were quite old fashioned so I got them made in to beautiful pendant. It’s much more wearable and more me.

I would run it past her first.
