To ask what I should do with this nail (gross info included)

I currently have acrylics on (big mistake, first time I’ve had them in ages and now massively regret it!). During a recent accident, my nail was ripped off from the nail bed as I caught the end of the acrylic. It didn’t come out completely, but was hanging off and flapping🤢 paramedics were there treating me anyway, so they cleaned it and taped it back on for me as I was making such a fuss about it hurtingGrin

It’s still taped down now a few weeks later. I’ve been taking the tape off and cleaning it regularly. It doesn’t seem to be growing, and without pulling it around I’m not sure exactly where it’s become detached. Do I just leave it as it is and hope it falls off soon? Or do I have to pull it off? It still hurts if I put any pressure on it, just want to know what to expect really!

Something similar happened to me so I cut the nail off, kept a plaster on it during the day and took it off at night. Took ages to grow back but it won't whilst the dead nail is hanging off.

Even thinking about it now turns my stomach. Took about 2 months to grow a new nail.

@Youdoyoutoday how were you able to cut it off? I think I need to do the same, but I'm not sure where the split is as the acrylic is still on (if that makes sense) so I don't know whether I need to just pull the whole thing off

I cut the nail tip off then used nail clippers to cut as much of the nail bed off. It was 🤮 but it had to be done.

It needs to dry out too so that's why I left the plaster off each night but kept one on during thr day to stop it catching on things and it looked unsightly
