Pokemon games Nintendo Switch help

Sorry posting for traffic!

Hi, my DC age 8 has the Let’s go Pikachu game on Nintendo Switch, can anyone advise me which game I should get next? I am getting increasingly confused when I have searched, with all the different versions, remakes and names. Any help would be very welcome

I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them to be honest (except maybe avoid Snap as it isn't the traditional game). They are all suitable for all ages and the gameplay in the traditional games is all similar enough.

DS has pokemon sword and shield and we recently got him Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which is the newest game.

The games come in pairs, Let's Go Pikachu and Let's go Eevee are pretty much the same game with only a handful of pokémon being different. Sword and Shield and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the other pairs. Pokémon Snap is essentially just taking pictures of Pokémon. Legends Arceus is the most different to a traditional game and has a similar catching mechanic to Lets go. You do not need both games of a pair. I would recommend Diamond or Pearl over Sword or Shield as they are most recent.

Diamond and Pearl are remakes of previous games, sword and shield are the "newest" generation if that makes sense. Legends Arceus is the newest game out and is very different in style and gameplay. Given their age and if they've enjoyed let's go I'd start with either diamond or pearl, or sword and shield. You can't get it wrong picking one of those, as a PP said you only need to pick one of the pair. I'd suggest legends Arceus for a little later

Diamond and Pearl, or Sword and Shield, would be good to go to next. The newest one, Legends, I’d say is a bit more difficult (at least the boss fights are) and it’s completely different game play. I’m 32 and have played every Pokémon game since they started and I found the boss fights in Legends hard Blush Sword and Shield is good because it gives you hints on what moves are strong against certain types in battle, so it would be good if your DC is just starting to learn about Pokemon.

I'm Currently playing Pearl as I haven't played pokemon in years (other than Pokemon Go) and yes I'm 37. I do share the switch with my kids, so I don't feel so bad playing it

Thank you everyone that is all so helpful! If you were going to play them all, does it matter which order Diamond/Pearl or Sword/Shield are played? Or are they too similar to bother? I think I might choose one of those and save the Legends One for a Christmas pressie.

I'm the exact same :) 32 and have played them all!

I'm playing Arceus at the moment and it is a bit more involved, catching Pokemon requires more coordination than in the older games so for an 8 year old Diamond or Pearl might be better.

Popcornriver · 18/02/2022 11:05

My DS preferred sword/shield with the dlc (which is a bit costly but added enough to the game that DS got a lot more enjoyment out of it). It doesn't matter which order they're played in.

tinierclanger · 18/02/2022 11:23

Sword and shield is better than diamond and Pearl I would say, newer game, better graphics. Arceus is brilliant, mechanics are different but I would have thought an 8 year old should pick it up quickly.

Thanks all, from your recommendations I am going with Sword and will get the Legends one for Christmas.🙂
