Should I go into College today

I am 22 and live in North Essex, but am currently a student in London (Islington). due to the storm, I am debating whether I should go in.

Reason TO GO in

  1. I have an practical assessment that has been scheduled for today, that I would much rather just get out of the way
  2. I have a university application, that has to go in today and I would find it much easier doing it at college.
  3. This is the last day before half term
  4. I didn’t attend yesterday (see Below)

Reasons NOT TO GO in

  1. I had to go to hospital yesterday (thankfully, turned out not to be serious) and still not feeling great. Teacher said they would completely understand if I didn’t attend today because of this.
  2. I will be able to take my assessment another day.
  3. It’s going to be very easy for me to end up stranded, if trains are suddenly and unexpectedly completely cancelled.
  4. There are going to be three changes in my trains (instead of the usual two)
  5. Many other people will not be attending (but they literally have no transport running. AT ALL! (large catchment area)

My parents are advising me not to go in (they are always usually very strict with education attendance, so this is clearly a cause of concern for them). What would you do?

GO IN (YABU)
NOT GO IN (YANBU)

Do not go in OP it has been advised not to travel unless you absolutely have to. You don't fall into that category. It can be done another day.

Againstmachine · 18/02/2022 06:54

You have a get out of jail card to not attend so don't.

Mabelface · 18/02/2022 07:23

I'm not going into the office in case I get stranded as the trains are on a much reduced timetable.

Violetmo0n · 18/02/2022 07:28

Don't go in.
Your still not 100% from yesterday anyway.

Cottagepieandpeas · 18/02/2022 07:29

I doubt the college will be open anyway.

Akire · 18/02/2022 07:30

You may get in but you may not be able to get home again. You have no idea how many staff will arrive to open college and could well be pointless task. London was amber now been moved to red.

slashlover · 18/02/2022 07:47

Can people really not decide things like this by themselves?

CourtRand · 18/02/2022 07:48

Don't go in! It's not necessary, you've been told it's fine and the advice is not to travel

@Cottagepieandpeas

I doubt the college will be open anyway.

Don't go in. My University have moved classes online today. Official advice is do not travel, so don't!

TheRealKaren · 18/02/2022 10:15

Thank you for all your replies, I have decided to not go in although the college is open as normal. many people who live further away have decided to go in (Oxford, Cambridgeshire, Colchester ect). Which does surprise me, but ultimately that’s up to them.
