Mouldy banana or spider infested trap...?

Just bought bananas from the local shop. Was in a rush, so grabbed and ran. Got home and one of the bananas is looking pretty nasty.

Don't want to open the bag, so pictures are not the best.

YABU - chill pill, mouldy banana!?!
YANBU - evacuate, evacuate!!!

Umm even open.. double bag air tight and gin. Why would you pick those up Shock

daisyjgrey · 17/02/2022 21:19

Burn it immediately.

Wafflesnsniffles · 17/02/2022 21:20

I would just chop that part off and bin. The rest will be fine. Total waste just to chuck the whole lot.

Wingedharpy · 17/02/2022 21:21

Something is dead in that bag.Shock

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 17/02/2022 21:21

That's why I never buy prepacked bananas! And never organic, I want any lurking fuckers to be blasted with pesticides.

Vaxhubsandwich · 18/02/2022 07:07

Highly deadly black tarantula.

DropYourSword · 18/02/2022 07:25

I'm not saying it's a tarantula, buuuut Grin

My mum told me she knew someone who once bought an expensive plant. It died pretty quickly and they took it back to the garden centre/nursery to say they'd followed proper care instructions and why had it died. Investigations took place - there was a hollow among the roots where they found a big egg sac. Minus the mummy spider.

Had to search the house looking for the bloody thing. Not my idea of a fun treasure hunt!!

I don't know if I completely believe my mum (although she's not really a one for lies) but I do love the story!

Highly deadly black tarantula.
This Grin

I'd just bin the lot personally.

Walkingalot · 18/02/2022 07:55

@LemonMuffins - can't say that without singing the song!

Anyone watch the Diane Morgan series - Mandy? There's an episode where she got a job at a Banana packing factory and she has to hammer the spiders as they come down the belt, with the bananas. There were tons of them. For a horrible moment I thought that this actually happens!

Defo get someone else to open them outside and be prepared to run.

PumpkinPie2016 · 18/02/2022 08:10

Hmmmm - hard to tell from the pics but no way would I be opening the bag to find out Shock

I'd just put the whole think in a bag and then in the wheelie bin.

VelvetChairGirl · 18/02/2022 09:12

take it back to the shop, what ever it is looks like its rotting to me.

the main thing you should be looking for is a little silky bobble glued to the bananas, thats what egg sacks look like.

and only buy loose as you cant look between the bananas properly when they are in a bag, if you dont have time to do that buy apples or a melon or something instead, the Cavendish banana will be extinct soon anyway.

MyGPsurgeryisUseless · 18/02/2022 09:21

I’d just like to point out tarantula’s aren’t deadly!

Depends on the country of origin to what spider may be on them.

I dont think tarantulas are in areas where cavandish bananas are grown and how the hell would one get on a bunch anyway they are ground dwelling, unless someone dropped a bunch on the poor sod.

This is what I was thinking until I read 'spider' .

Now my advice is keep the bag closed and use a dustpan and brush to get it straight outside into the bin!

I dunno, I think I'd have a heart attack if I saw one in my kitchen!

Had a false window in a bunch of sable grapes before, I was really enjoying them until I spotted the little bugger.
