Big dent in skull!

Does anyone else have a big dent in their skull ? Grin I’ve always had it, it runs vertically down the middle and puts my skull into 2 halves. It’s not just a little dent, it’s maybe 7mm -9mm in depth at its deepest (hard to measure) and is around 4cm long. It starts at the crown/top of my head and goes backwards. It’s a straight line and is deepest in the centre and gets shallower at the edges.

I know it’s harmless because I’ve always had it, and have no problems, but I’m curious- what would cause it? Is it something to with fontanels joining as a baby? Why do more people not have it?!

I think it means you were involved in an axe fight in a previous life Grin

P. S. I have strange bumpy bits in my skull, but no dents as far as I know!

Cinnabomb · 17/02/2022 13:05

Yes it’s just the suture line from fontanelles. Completely normal

SusanSHelit · 17/02/2022 13:06

It's probably a skull suture where your skull plates fused as a baby/toddler from how you've described it. I have a shallow dip, some have deeper ridges. Not all that unusual really

@Somethingsnappy, I have the same did you ever find out what they are or what caused them?

ShittyFingers · 17/02/2022 13:11

Yeah I’ve got a massive dent in my skull. It apparently happened during a rough forceps delivery!

I didn't ever investigate because they just seem part of the skull and cause no issues. I think most people's skulls probably have the odd lump or bumpy bit to be honest. My husband does too.

I have a line straight down my forehead from an accident as a child. It's visible in zoom calls, but no lasting damage

Sausageandeggs · 18/02/2022 09:38

As per above, it’s the sutures. They vary massively from person to person, as do skull shapes. Find somewhere to hold and examine different skulls and you’ll see what I mean.

I have a flat bit at the back of my head..I almost want to shave my head, so I can see it better. Probably feels worse than it looks 😂. Also have an indentation going down my forehead which my bf calls San Andreas.
