Still coughing two weeks after having Covid

Hello, I'm posting here for responses . I had Covid a couple of weeks ago , Isolated for 10 days and I'm testing negative, but keep having coughing fits daily for several hours sometimes. I'm mildly asthmatic so am using my inhaler when breathless. Just interested in knowing if anyone else has experienced this side effect continuing after they've had covid, and if/when it went away?
Thanks

I was coughing for months after, but this was before any vaccines

echobeachsomeday · 15/02/2022 16:48

Hi @Regularsizedrudy that doesnt sound good, I've had two vaccines and was booked in to have my booster when I tested positive for covid. Guess I'll just wait for it to stop by itself, thank you

Yes, pre vaccine covid and was very much not right for many many months. Sucks.

Bramshott · 15/02/2022 16:54

2 weeks is very early days. I had flu a few years back and was having major coughing fits for 6 weeks.
Hope you feel better soon.

JustWonderingIfYou · 15/02/2022 16:55

DP had awful cough for months afterwards. 2 weeks is early days.

tiredanddangerous · 15/02/2022 16:56

DH has had his covid cough for over a year now. It comes and goes and sometimes is worse than others.

@BringMeTea @Bramshott @JustWonderingIfYou

Cough lasted months for me, twice now, I’m still coughing whenever I strain my voice a little bit through work.
Every time I get covid I get really poorly though, missing at least a month of work and needing hospital treatment. Everyone saying “it’s mild you’ll be fine” can kiss my arse.

flowerseedh · 15/02/2022 17:04

Yes, sorry to say that two weeks is nothing. You just have to sit it out. What I found was that I was just starting to think 'will this ever go' (after about 8 weeks) when within a day or two it cleared and I wasn't catching my breath any more.

I have asthma too and any virus tends to leave me with a long term cough. I think the longest lasted three months. It might be worth speaking to your GP as they might change your inhalers. If you are only using a reliever you may need a preventative steroid inhaler too which can help reduce the inflammation. Bad cases also sometimes need steroid tablets.

I had mine over 6 weeks both times I had covid.

Also asthmatic though I'm not sure that's relevant as my asthma was fine when I had covid.

Harriet181 · 15/02/2022 17:11

Both me and my husband still coughing after having covid at end of January. Although it is much less frequent and less severe so is gradually improving.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 15/02/2022 17:38

Mine lasted almost 2 months and that was after both vaccines and the booster. Also asthmatic but hadn't used my inhaler for years until then

Pucarbuile · 15/02/2022 17:42

I was diagnosed with covid at Christmas and this is the first week I haven't had a cough. Also mild asthma which was resurrected by covid.

MillyMollyMandyMaybe · 15/02/2022 17:44

I had a dose of what’s now recognised as covid in February 2020. I still have a cough two years on (though with an historic lung problem). But this was before we knew much about what covid was, and we’ll before vaccines.

FavouriteFortnight · 15/02/2022 17:47

Yep another “two years and still coughing” here. And never had and lung problems prior.

Mirrorball2022 · 15/02/2022 17:48

I’ve a friend who had covid last autumn and is still coughing and needs an inhaler on exertion now. Had no lung issues before.

It’s quite common for symptoms to linger with covid and other illness too. I had a nasty virus ( not covid) in November and the coughing lasted a few weeks gradually easing off. Luckily no lasting effects!
