Took chicken out of freezer Friday to defrost overnight. Didn't cook till Sunday. Been in fridge since. Will it be ok to eat? Chicken makes me nervous.

You won’t enjoy it if nervous
So bin it

TriceratopsRocks · 15/02/2022 15:33

I would, definitely. I'd try a bit first to make sure it tasted ok. But it's only 4 days since you took it out of the freezer, so I see no issue.

So from Saturday am to Sunday it was in a fridge? Is this a whole chicken to roast?

It will be fine. Don't waste food.

msssm · 15/02/2022 15:34

True, but kids won't have a clue and I could do without wasting the money. I'd rather be skint than give them food poisoning though 😂

Cooked on Sunday? It will be fine today

msssm · 15/02/2022 15:36

Small chicken breasts.

As long as it was put in the fridge as soon as it was cooled after cooking it will be safe to eat today.

I’d be more nervous watching my children eat it than me!!
Mumdiva99 · 15/02/2022 15:37

Cooked on Sunday and in fridge till Tuesday - should be absolutely fine.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/02/2022 15:38

If you defrosted in fridge or it went in the fridge on Saturday, of course I would eat it.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 15/02/2022 15:40

It'll be fine if it's been in the fridge. NHS recommend 2 days, USA guidelines seem to be 3-4 days!

msssm · 15/02/2022 15:41

Thanks all for putting my mind at rest. It smells fine. Going to stir fry it and will give it the taste test before I serve it.

I've done this a few times as taken it out and then we have ended up having other plans and it's been fine, not really ever thought about it!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/02/2022 15:50

It'll be absolutely fine .

TheOrigRights · 15/02/2022 16:01

Where was it while defrosting? Fridge or not.

If the former it'll be fine, if the latter I'd chuck it.

AdmiralCain · 15/02/2022 16:27

I ate 2 bowls of Hákarl in a row when I was in Iceland. 2 day old defrosted chicken wouldn't bother me after that.

msssm · 15/02/2022 20:27

I just googled that @AdmiralCain. Thankfully my chicken tasted nothing like that!
It was defrosted in the fridge for those that asked. We ate it and it was lovely. Thanks for the reassurance I think I would have binned it otherwise.
Oh and @AdmiralCain? Just why... 🤢
