AIBU to be thinking that a toy I owned in the 80s never actually existed??

I know it must have… unless I’ve flipped realties or some such. It was my favourite toy for years and I spent hours whiling away the hours with it, on and off for a good few years.

But I can find no reference to it anywhere online. What’s that all about..?! The internet always throws a up some results…

It was called a Batty Bouncer. It was a hard plastic stick maybe ten inches long.. and it hard a hard bouncy bit like a ball (although not completely round) at each end. You threw it and it bounced, sometimes quite high.

I think the stick was yellow .. maybe.. and I think or was by Mattel or some other well known at the time toy brand.

Did anyone else have one?

I keep looking it up on and off because I can’t believe al lol mention of them has fallen off the face of the earth, less than 40 years later!

Sounds more like a dog toy to me, I'm afraid.

Happy to be wrong, though.

RebornRebound · 14/02/2022 20:53

It wasn't called a Trick Stick was it? Or is that something else?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/02/2022 20:54

Yup, I'm wrong.

I vaguely remember this toy too but not what it was called.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 14/02/2022 20:58

I just googled batty bouncer and got the same result as NeverDrop?

FlamingoDust · 14/02/2022 21:00

I remember those! A few of my friends had them I reckon around 1989/1990. I wanted one but didn't have one. No idea what they were called

Handsnotwands · 14/02/2022 21:00

I remember them but not what they were called. I think they were considered a bit dangerous as they flew off at unexpected angles.

Divebar2021 · 14/02/2022 21:01

Surely that must be a sexual reference nowadays?

WhackusBonkus · 14/02/2022 21:01

No a trick stick was much longer and didn't bounce.

Yeah I guess it looked a bit like a dog toy but definitely for kids and to throw.

It was about a quarter of the size of a majorette baton.. too small to twirl

I remember those. Is this it in this video OP.

WhackusBonkus · 14/02/2022 21:03

I would say I'm 99.9% sure it was actually called a Batty Bouncer. I've even googled Batti but to no avail. All I get are baby bouncer chairs?! Hmm

Hellocatshome · 14/02/2022 21:07

How strange I was a kid of the late 80s early 90s and coveted every toy going and dont remember these at all. They look a bit dangerous though, I can imagine if I had one I would maybe have lost some teeth or an eye so probably best I didnt (I was a very accident prone kid)

gamerchick · 14/02/2022 21:08
