Where are my flowers gone? Could there be someone around?

Every Sunday I leave some flowers at a wayside grave that local history says a mother buried all of her children when they died in the 1840s during The Great Hunger. I live in an isolated spot, usually see no one except farmers and tourists during the summer or the odd film crew from time to time.
Whilst taking the dog for a walk this evening I noticed the bunch of flowers are gone. Now it's been fairly windy and that's why I weighed them down under a rock yesterday and the rock has been rolled over to the other side of the patch of land. There's no cows nearby.
Am I getting paranoid or should I be worried that there's someone prowling around?

Probably blew away

LubaLuca · 14/02/2022 20:43

One of the farmers forgot to place an order with the florist for Valentine's Day.

Mummaganoush · 14/02/2022 20:43

Some cheapskate forgot valentines and felt their luck had come in?!

RagzRebooted · 14/02/2022 20:44

Taken for a valentines gift?

Really18 · 14/02/2022 20:44

My dad was putting flowers on my nans grave znd they were disappearing anyhow the bunnies did it. They were eating the flowers. I guess the high winds had yours.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 14/02/2022 20:46

It happened in a cemetery here & it turned out to be wildlife taking them.

RocketPanda · 14/02/2022 20:47

@LubaLuca I thought that for a bit but there's no animals out so no farmers out this way Grin

I doubt the wind could blow a rock over.
I have several outbuildings and just checked them all and there's nothing untoward and they are all very secure. I have an open barn but that just got a washing line in it.

There's no deer around here so the rock is still a mystery. I can imagine only a deer would have the strength to move rocks.

Farmers will check on their land, hedges, gates etc even when there's no livestock out.

I think wildlife is much more likely though. Tasty flowers at this time of year would be an irresistible feast to lots of animals.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/02/2022 20:51

We're they wrapped or tied together?

RocketPanda · 14/02/2022 20:54

No wrappings I don't like leaving plastic around the countryside.
I really doubt the farmers took them. I've been doing it for a long time and they know I do and have never touched them.

Interesting….

There is a similar grave on Dartmoor, flowers appear, but no one knows who puts them there.

Thewindwhispers · 14/02/2022 21:02

Someone nicked them.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/02/2022 21:05

@TheSpottedZebra

Yeah that's what I was getting at Grin

Flowers EVERY Sunday! Blimey.

sparklystar333 · 14/02/2022 21:07

Squirrels, they eat the wreaths at our local crematorium.

Jay's grave? People that stop there. Nothing more romantic that that.
catscatscurrantscurrants · 14/02/2022 21:10

Dobby, is it Kitty Jay's grave on Dartmoor?

catscatscurrantscurrants · 14/02/2022 21:12

Whoops,I see someone else has just asked that!

Gilly12345 · 14/02/2022 21:16

Don’t you leave the flowers in a vase?

Prescottdanni123 · 14/02/2022 21:21

Given the date, I'd say that someone received them for valentine's day.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/02/2022 21:32

@catscatscurrantscurrants

Dobby, is it Kitty Jay's grave on Dartmoor?
Yes.
RocketPanda · 14/02/2022 21:53

I used to use an old jug as a vase @Gilly12345 but then if the cows accidentally trample it then it leaves sharp bits to injure so I stopped that. Weird that you knew that.
Every Sunday @TheSpottedZebra . I live 2 minutes walk from it. The only thing that marks it is some rocks. Someone should remember them.
