Serving a life sentence for breaking into a woman's home, holding a knife to her throat and attempting to rape her after leaving prison for another offence three weeks earlier. The police say he is dangerous (especially to women and children) and should not be approached.

If someone is imprisoned and considered a danger to society is it naive to think they wouldn't be in an open prison? What am I missing here?

I wondered the very same!

Probably moved there to get ready to be released,he was sentenced in 2000 so quite possible.

There is another thread with almost the exact same title.

Lockhart - Sorry, I did look but didn't see another thread.

Notthisnotthat - Yes, I guess it might be that he was due for release soon. Frightening that they still seem to consider him a significant danger though.

It's frightening. This man has a long history of violent offences against women and children.

In 1988, he assaulted a 12 year old child. Went to prison, released early. In 1990, he abducted and assaulted an 8 year old. Went to prison for 5 years. In 1995, he attacked a 31 year old. Went to prison for 5 years. In 2000, he assaulted a 23 year old.

I'm no expert, but does anyone else spot a pattern here? As soon as he gets out of prison, he hurts a woman or child.

That was also my thought when I read it. Unbelievable that he was in an open prison.
