Bank card not turned up

NoPostSoNoCard · 12/02/2022 09:51

As the title says really.

It expired so they sent me a new one. I have it connected to my phone so currently can’t use it.

Had the text about the new card on it’s way on 24th January, the text says that as of the end of that week (30th) my current card would stop working. I have spoken to the bank and ordered another new card on 1st February but that hasn’t turned up either.

Haven’t had post in over a fortnight. Haven’t even seen the posties (there’s several both men and women) anywhere nearby for at least a week.

WWYD? I can’t keep ordering new cards in the hope they turn up, such a waste of plastic! But I can’t manage without that card as I do all my purchasing in cash and go to the cashpoint to withdraw the money. I can go to the bank with my bank account number and sort code but I don’t like carrying around lots of cash so it’s taking time out of my working day to go to the highstreet – there’s a cashpoint on my walk to and from school so it’s easier to get say £20 out and use that over the next few days.

There are no other banks locally and the nearest post office is also a drive away. I’ve looked into opening another bank account but have been putting it off as I don’t have a passport and I use my ExHs surname so I have to go to an actual branch to confirm my ID rather than over the apps. And I work from home, can’t just take time off for an appointment with a bank 20 miles away.

Any ideas what I can do? It’s extremely frustrating. I don’t blame the bank, they’ve always been amazing and are trying their best to help me.

Ask if the card can be delivered to your bank to pick up from there?

Get out more cash and keep it at home?

WeatherwaxOn · 12/02/2022 10:12

Firstly check with Royal mail what is going on. No lost for a fortnight sounds problematic. They're active on twitter and respond quickly.

Secondly, speak to the bank. Ask them to cancel previous cards and send a new one to your bank to be collected.

NoPostSoNoCard · 12/02/2022 10:14

Will contact Royal Mail thank you didn't think of that.

Will cancel previous cards and see if bank can have it there, I didn't know this was an option.

We've had post recently for the right house number but the wrong street. I'm afraid it was several days before I got round to taking the first one to their house, by which time a second had arrived. It's not a street that's close by at all.

@mumda I live in a block of flats with a trades button but the button doesn't always work, so often go a few weeks without post, but this is the longest.

My D1 had this problem too. She mislaid her debit card and told her bank, then it took about a month before she got her new card - this appeared to be the bank's fault rather than the post. They kept saying they'd sent her one and then one would turn up but had already been cancelled. She asked to have it delivered to the local branch (she's away at university) and was told you have to have three failed deliveries before they'll do that. Very frustrating.

Cam2020 · 12/02/2022 12:28

Not NatWest by any chance?

ny20005 · 12/02/2022 12:31

Check with your local sorting office. We weren't getting mail & when I checked, posties were off due to covid & they were struggling to sort & deliver. I was able to pick mine up

mogsrus · 12/02/2022 12:32

20 miles away,so have a day out & sort it face to face, that is what I would do

WhatEvenHappened44 · 12/02/2022 12:33

My post had not been delivered before and I physically went to the royal mail sorting office (the usually have a customer service counter) and gave them proof of ID and they had my mail there and gave it to me

Snaketime · 12/02/2022 12:43

I had this happen too, first of all stop ordering new cards and secondly you are just going to have to wait. It took about 3 weeks for me to get mine, patience is a virtue.

@mogsrus If I don't work I don't get paid so I can't just take AL to sort it, I have to make an appointment with the branch to go in and discuss it . Seems a bit stupid for something that might take less than an hour to sort.

I work more hours delibrately in the run up to a school holiday so I can spend time with my DD.

I'll call Royal Mail first.

Pop to your local sorting office with ID. Your post may well be sitting waiting for you.

Then check which card is still valid when you get them both and cut up the one that isn’t valid.

mogsrus · 12/02/2022 16:20

That's the biggest problem with banks. They open when other people at work & close when you are still at work. They really are rubbish. Ditched mind years ago,all on line now, never been a hassle in 20yrs.

WeatherwaxOn · 12/02/2022 23:32

You should be able to make arrangements to have the card sent to whichever branch I'd most convenient to you (either close to work or close to home).
You'll need to take ID, but it shouldn't be a long winded process.

Teaandcrumpets95 · 12/02/2022 23:41

I work for a bank; you can absolutely request your card be sent to your branch.
I'd call them first thing so that the next card will go out with the Monday batches and you'll get it asap.

Definitely speak to your post office it seems like there are some delays and problems there they should be aware of.

You mentioned your expiring card being linked to your phone- do you mean like apple/ Google/ android pay? If your card has been reissued as the same type ie visa to another visa or Mastercard to Mastercard then that should automatically update so you can use it before you get the physical card.

Hope that helps, I know how frustrating it can be when things don't go smoothly x

Teaandcrumpets95 · 12/02/2022 23:44

Also, depending who you bank with they may be able to offer an emergency cash withdrawal- where they set up a code at an atm so you get funds out without using a card. Worth asking if they can do that for you x
