COVID conspiracy theories

Anyone still have people in their lives that think they are superior because they:

Haven't been brainwashed
Believe in conspiracy theories
Act as though something at some point will come out and they can take the higher ground and say I told you so
Snigger at the fact society have been vaccinated three sometimes more times and still catch covid
Take pride in being unvaccinated
Have a really really strong view about this but haven't ever really expressed any views on anything ever before
Seem to be all consumed by their views and how different they are to others
Obviously didn't follow any of the rules
Love calling any rule followers sheep
Revel in the latest party gate stories

BUT still can't articulate what the actual conspiracy is and how the collusion between the entire world came about

There were a few of these bumbling around at the height of it all and social media / topic of conversations do seem to have died down.

Have they lost interest, don't care, don't believe their hype anymore or are there still people out there obsessed with this?

My mil and sil.

It’s infuriating really especially given that I am CEV and recovering from Covid.

Sil is brainwashed by mil.

The only person I know who not vaccinated now has an auto immune disease and been advised not too. I had friends who didn't at the start for very good reasons...one was pregnant at the beginning and the advice was unsure then. She pretty much put herself into insolation till the birth then got vaccinated. No one ever said any conspiracy theories ever. Only ever see these theories in the news

AmyandPhilipfan · 11/02/2022 08:29

I sometimes see rubbish spouted on my FB newsfeed when local pages advertise drop in vaccination locations - some people like to jump on the comments to sneer at anyone wanting to get vaccinated.

AlternativePerspective · 11/02/2022 08:32

No. Because I make it my mission not to associate with those kinds of morons.

My family don’t think like that, and any of my friends who did have been blocked.

You can’t argue with stupid.

whysonasty · 11/02/2022 08:32

Oh yes. A very lovely and very good friend of mine who is really smart and switched on. Which makes it even more difficult to understand. I can see her tying herself up in knots trying to justify her case, even though I don't ever bring it up with her at all anymore. She initiates the conspiracy chat. I think it might be a bit of face-saving for those who have persisted this long. They'll be arguing about it forever because they don't want to admit they got lost in the rabbit hole.

Narutocrazyfox · 11/02/2022 08:35

Myself and a few people I know are unvaccinated by choice, but that's purely because we don't deem it necessary. I rarely discuss it in real life because it's none of anyone's business. I haven't heard any conspiracy theories from anyone though, or seen any through social media channels tbh...

MuffinStrops · 11/02/2022 08:36

My brother. It absolutely dominates his life. He can articulate why he believes what he does. I don’t dismiss it all out of hand either. He recently nearly died of Covid but still absolutely believes vaccines are wrong.

No one in RL but a lot of it on here.
Lots of "I won't bother testing. Testing just gives ammunition to the government"
"I've had enough and not doing any more." (starting around May 2020)
"It's just a mild cold" (except when it isn't)
"They should just let everyone get on and those that can't should isolate" (how kind!)
"It doesn't really spread in schools" (hahahahahaha)
"It's all over" (I first saw that one in January 2020)

And repetition of various false facts (such as only 317 people have really died from covid), that most of the people in hospital have always been going in for something else and just happened to pick up they have covid, most of the people who died were actually hit by a bus within 28 days of having a test...
Even when they're given good research to show that they're not correct, then they spout their rubbish on another.

And if anyone challenges them they respond with things like "You just want permanent lockdown" (no one is actually asking for that) or similar strawmen arguments.

I never realised before how selfish and thoughtless people seem to be. Sad really.

My friends husband - he’s disappeared off Facebook, he kept getting every post removed for spreading false information. I think it massively affected his mental health and wouldn’t be surprised if he had a breakdown. I had to ask him to stop sending me videos as I wasn’t interested but he wanted to save his friends from the lies apparently!

Allergictoironing · 11/02/2022 09:15

There's still plenty about. I spend a lot of my working hours in local towns, and we get spates of Covid conspiracy and anti-vaxxer stickers stuck up everywhere - on signs, posts (like lamp posts & street sign posts), bus shelters etc. No consideration for others e.g. bus timetable obscured by them, or on private property including house front doors or car windows.

They seem to mostly be different stickers in different towns, and after a quiet spell there's usually a change in what's on them.

But we've been lucky in my district. At a recent training course we were told that in some areas they have found caustic chemicals under the stickers, or even razor blades, so people removing the stickers will be injured Angry

Yes, but he also believes the Queen is a lizard so pretty hard to take anything he says seriously. He’s so, so, so far down the rabbit hole he’s cut himself off from everyone he knows.
