To wonder if PCR tests are reliable (especially for children)

DD5 has been having a bad cold since the weekend. She had a slight temperature as well but only for one night. Now she's started coughing continuously. Her lft was negative as was her PCR test.

It's probably just a bad cold but I still wonder if the PCR is fool proof? I did the PCR myself at a drive in test centre. They asked me to just swab one nostril. I went in as deep as was comfortable for her, which wasn't very far in.

Mine and she's lft s are negative as well. We'll keep her off school this week I think even if it isn't covid. I don't want to risk infecting anyone .(even if it's just with a cold) and them then having go self isolate and get a pcr etc.

I'd still like to know for 1. Out of curiosity and 2. do I need to keep her away from my elderly parents.
