To want to walk home?

I'm going to see a band in a pub, about 30 mins walk from home.

I'm going with a group of male friends, all completely platonic. I know they will be uneasy about "letting" me walk home. There will probably be one or two going in my direction for a while, but some poor soul will feel obliged to walk me home, thereby extending his journey or suggest sharing a cab, thereby incurring a cost that neither of us needs.

I hate getting in a cab on my own and am happy to walk. I feel far safer and more comfortable walking.

How do I make these men see I'm OK walking and if something awful did happen it's my choice, not their problem.

FWIW I do think they do it out of genuine concern and wanting to be decent but it still annoys me.

Tbh if you're that bothered just suggest sharing a can. Depends what bothers you more really.

I think it's great that your friends look out for you and want you to get home safely. I'm like you and prefer walking to getting taxis (taxi drivers are awful creeps ime) could you maybe promise to call/text when you get home or talk to one of them on your walk home? You still get your walk and your friends will know you're safe and not worry
