Keir Starmer mobbed

Watched the news about Keir Starmer being mobbed and having to be bundled into a police car for his own safety. Evidently it was motivated by the PM’s comments regarding the Jimmy Savile case. I found it unbelievable when I caught the end of an interview on Sky News in which a Tory MP said he didn’t believe it had anything to do with what Boris Johnson said. What will it take for them to stop defending him ?

The whataboutery on this thread is really something to behold - one might even describe it as Johnsonian.

I didnt say he deserved it
Come off it Hoardasurass you said "If Stammer [sic] has anyone (other than himself) ti [sic] blame"....

CrinklyCraggy · 09/02/2022 09:17

I don't understand why more isn't being made of the fact that Saville was protected for so long by friends in high places, not least the Conservative PM at the time.

I don't understand how the PM can say such stuff that is blatantly untrue and get away with it.

However, it's the opposition's actual job to deal with all that. Stamer should have an amazing opportunity while the Tories are in such disarray, but he doesn't seem to know what to do with it, which is very disappointing to me.

There was a fair bit of whataboutery when people were excused chucking milkshakes over politicians in parliament square too.
Some commentators thought that was funny, jo brand made a joke on have I got news for you for example.
Neither is acceptable and it all reflects badly on us all.
The anti vax protestors outside Westminster are left as much as right in any case. The lefty ones there seem to hate Keir and the righty ones seem to hate Boris!

@shropshire11

Johnson’s comments were misguided, but sadly this kind of thing doesn’t just originate on the right. Angela Rayner calling people scum just for disagreeing with her, for example. The standard on both sides is too low.

Whataboutery at its finest. You do know two wrongs don't make a right?

Boris Johnson told lies. He is trying to defect attention away from what a piss poor Prime Minister he is. He won't apologise for the comments because he's not sorry. He knows that his idiot supporters will run with information like that, whether it's made up or not. Surely anybody, any dog on the street, would make a better job of Prime Minister than Boris Johnson.

Whataboutery about whataboutery - I've seen it all now sashagabadon

Hoardasurass · 09/02/2022 10:39

Yes @CryingAtTheDiscotheque I do believe that Stammer and his lack of action is directly responsible for the state of the labour party and there rabid activists as such he is to blame for the mob mentality and mob behaviour. That being said I don't believe that anyone deserves to be attacked bya mob ever. I just don't have much sympathy for someone who is happy to allow mob rule and then complain when it turns on them the old adage is true live by the sword die by the sword

ancientgran · 09/02/2022 10:39
@CryingAtTheDiscotheque I didn't say he deserves it but yes he and his party are to blame in exactly the same way that they are responsible for the labour activists that mobbed members of the tory party screaming scum at them and there activists who mob and attack any woman (both online and in person) who has the ordasity to stand up for women's rights.
Stammer has repeatedly refused to condemn there behaviour or defend Rosie Duffield from the mob as such he has given his (minimally) tacit approval of there behaviour and can't now complain or blame others when the mob turns on him
Are they responsible for extreme right wingers as well?

OriginalM · 09/02/2022 10:40

Is anyone else shocked that there are still some of the general public who believe Boris in what he says and didn't think to fact check his slurs against Keir before going harassing him?
I just cannot believe there are people that stupid who blindly follow Boris and are thick enough to react like that when it's not true

ancientgran · 09/02/2022 10:43

The trouble with using paedophile as a slur is that some people will take it as a justification for violence. I remember a paediatrician having her house attacked because some nutters thought she was connected to paedophilia in some way because of her job title.

Once a mob gets going with something like that it is very dangerous.

Johnson’s comments were misguided, but sadly this kind of thing doesn’t just originate on the right. Angela Rayner calling people scum just for disagreeing with her, for example.

That is utter BS.
