To think a business should pay its own operating costs?

I've just moved house.
Being a wimp law abiding citizen, I not only pay for a TV licence but I let them know where I am and therefore what property the £12.82 I pay them every month is to cover. So I've done an online change of address. Fairly basic stuff?
So why did it cost me £16.50 to give them this information? None of my other utility suppliers charge me for communicating with them.

YANBU - the BBC should be sufficiently grateful for your monthly contributions to want to know quite what you're paying for.
YABU - the BBC is a sacred cow who make up their own rules.

I've moved twice in recent years and never paid to update them. Are you sure you used the right website?!

GaiusHelenMohiam · 08/02/2022 13:49

Er, I think you’ve been scammed.

iklboo · 08/02/2022 13:50

I think you might have gone via a scam site. We've never paid to change address for a TV licence.

jimmyreckon · 08/02/2022 13:50

Address change is free I think you've been on a scAm site

gamerchick · 08/02/2022 13:51

You didn't pay it did you?

iklboo · 08/02/2022 13:53

TV Licensing does not charge customers to change their address. However, third party websites may charge customers an additional fee

HoldingTheDoor · 08/02/2022 13:56

It sounds like you've used the wrong site. Did you use this site by any chance? www.movemy.co.uk/faq They charge £16.50. It's free to change your details on the official site.

MotherWilliam · 08/02/2022 13:56

Aaaaaarrrgghhhhh.

As much as a I dislike the BBC licence fee, I think you owe them an apology! Not their fault you used a third party site.

MotherWilliam · 08/02/2022 13:58

As you were.
How did that get past me? Blush

Ah well, at least I've highlighted it so the rest of you won't get sucked in.

Did you pay by credit card? Wondering if you can claim back.
