AIBU - To send 4 year old with sore throat to school

DC keeps saying their throat hurts. They were ill since Wednesday. It's not covid, they're now generally well in themselves and no temperature anymore. Eating a tad less than usual.

Me and DH are divided on whether DC should go to school.

Opinions?

If they are feeling well with just a sore throat I'd give some calpol to help with the pain and send them in

What pp said. He'll be bouncing off the walls at home by 10.15. Can you pick him up if he is actually unwell later on?

Onlyforcake · 07/02/2022 07:48

No. They're four they won't miss anything and the school will probably want them set home if they say they're unwell there.

TerribleTuna · 07/02/2022 07:48

Mine would never be in nursery/school if we kept them off for every sore throat and cold.

If it's just a sore throat then yes, calpol and in school.

I always think, with the older DC anyway, what will they be doing if they are off? If I believe they'll be in bed resting because they are that poorly then they won't go to school. If I think they'll be sat playing Xbox and asking for snacks every 5 mins like normal then there is no reason not to be in school!

I always send in if I think they're ok without Calpol, and make sure to tell the teacher that they're feeling under the weather and don't hesitate to send home. Never been sent home.

Send them in and ask the teacher to make sure they're drinking plenty.

Kbyodjs · 07/02/2022 08:26

If they’re ok in themselves then send them in

RandomQuest · 07/02/2022 08:34

Assuming he’s ok in himself then id give a dose of Nurofen (unlike Calpol it should last the whole school day) and send him in. If he starts to struggle they’ll call you to collect anyway.
