So I have a shunt and currently in hospital waiting to see if I need another surgery. I'm terrified of having another one. My mental health has been shot since having the initial surgery's and I'm scared another one is going to make it worse 😭

Sorry to hear this. Sounds really difficult. I think some of us won't be familiar with what a shunt is, would you mind telling us? Hope you have some RL support Daffodil

missbipolar · 06/02/2022 21:56

So a shunt is placed in the head to drain spinal fluid away from the head to be asbord in another part of the body.

I hope a decision is made quickly for you, often the not knowing (and therefore the mind running away with itself) is worse than the actual reality.

I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight (I know unlikely if you are on a ward) Flowers

I've just recovered from surgery and was worried recently I might have to go through it again, so I know exactly how you must be feeling. Sorry you're having such a tough time. Are you admitted or an outpatient? Have you had help with how you've been feeling recently? Definitely worth speaking to consultant/GP about your worries

missbipolar · 06/02/2022 22:33

I hope so- I have to have more tests tomorrow and a decision will be made after that. I don't think I'll get any sleep tonight- there's currently one lady yelling for the police and multiple alarms.
The Dr's know how I feel but are saying that if the pressure in my head is high that it could be effecting my mental health as well.

How are you now @missbipolar ?

missbipolar · 10/02/2022 14:16

I'm still waiting on a decision on what they want to do but an LP has confirmed the intercrainial pressures high.

So they didn't do the surgery during that admission but decided to wait and see what happens with additional medication. I ended up having the surgery a week ago
