Takeaways getting delivered repeatedly that we didn’t order, people trying our door

Hello

We have had a very random set of events recently.

We have heard a key in the lock of the door and trying to get in. This was neither me or my flatmate. We have had takeaways delivered that we didn’t order.

We are a bit weirded out

Any ideas

Thanks

Is your door on the main road, someone pissed has gone to the wrong door, previous tenant, disgruntled ex partner. Is the door and lock safe, have you told your landlord.

TulipCat · 06/02/2022 19:32

I don't know about the key thing but for the takeaways, do you live near an area of public land like a park? I do, and regularly get takeaways arriving that people in the park have ordered.

nancyclancy123 · 06/02/2022 19:36

We have had the takeaway delivery issue. It turned out to be a group of teens who were hoping to collect it as it was delivered but were late and I took it in. I recognised them and they are harmless enough, so I’ve since allowed them to do it.

The key issue is worrying though, how about a camera near the door?

Sparklesocks · 06/02/2022 19:41

We had a series of takeaways turn up unordered and it turned out to be the previous tenant, he still had the address in his address book for the takeaway site and it was set as the default one. Took him ages to sort out! So could be something like that. Not sure about the key in the door though, is it worth getting a ring doorbell or something?

RedCandyApple · 06/02/2022 19:45

I’ve heard about the takeaway thing, so weird that people would get takeaways ordered to someone’s address then they plan to meet them outside to take the takeaway

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 06/02/2022 19:49

We don’t live near a park or public space

We live up a flight of stairs and not on a main road

Were the takeaways in your name?

If so, it's someone you or your flatmate have upset. Hopefully that's a short list Grin

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 06/02/2022 20:01

No names on them

I work in fraud and huge amount is done through takeaways! They use a stolen card as most takeaways take payment over the phone which requires no security whatsoever, they are just taking long card number, expiry , 3 digits in the back. All of which a fraudster will have if they have the stolen card or card details. Sometimes a place will ask for postcode and house number but again this isn't secure as this only applicable to UK issued cards and a lot of fraud is on cards from all over world and an issuing bank has to be enrolled.
So people will give an address they don't live at so can't be traced and intercept the food delivery.

RedCandyApple · 06/02/2022 20:09

Where are the takeaways from then? All takeaways I’ve ordered come with a receipt

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 06/02/2022 20:33

@RedCandyApple

Just eat

The first was subway - no receipt

The second today McDonald’s - receipt but no names and just eat unable to trace it

@Floppy234 is this applicable to just eat? And what do they gain from this? As we got the delivery

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 06/02/2022 20:35

@Floppy234
Also, even if it isn’t applicable to just eat what does the fraudster gain in that scenario ? (Out of interest)

We used to live in house number 10 which was very close to the number 10 of a different street and we got all their takeaways - is someone entering or reading the address incorrectly?

I remember once having a lengthy debate with one delivery driver about which street I lived on as if I would not know my own address Hmm

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 06/02/2022 20:42

@truthfullylying we feel this could be a possibility and intend to ask a delivery driver if it happens a again

If you are the person who lives at the same number as me but in the next road down - I'm really really sorry that Google maps sends the takeaway drivers to your house and not mine! I leave messages to say DON'T go to Xxx road but they don't take any notice. We have had so many deliveries go missing!

DilemmaDelilah · 06/02/2022 20:45

I don't try to get into your house though 😁

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 06/02/2022 20:46

@DilemmaDelilah well if you ordered a subway at lunchtime and McDonald’s at teatime and live in Scotland it could well be 🤣

We have identical blocks of flats were I live and get people thinking this block is the one they’re after.
Worse key in door moment was at 3am it was a woman and I screamed at her through the locked front door to fuck off.. she ran away then came back to say sorry and i screamed at her again

Floppy234 · 06/02/2022 20:50

Well usually the fraudster would intercept the delivery thus getting a free meal, but doesn't really matter if they do or not as they Haven't paid for it so if no loss to them. The fact your door was trying to be opened would make me think that maybe they thought it was flats and they could just be in lobby sort of thing and intercept.

But as another poster mentioned could also be address related. I've moved now but I lived in say blah blah avenue and blah blah road was just round corner and we always got each other's Amazon's, dpd etc.

Mymsical · 06/02/2022 20:50

If you're in a block of flats, is there a similar address on your street?

We live at number X, Y House on Z Street. There is also just a Number X, Z Street. Our takeaways often end up there!

AlexandraEiffel · 06/02/2022 20:54

We also get deliveries for an address that's similar to ours. Happens a fair amount

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 06/02/2022 20:56

We don’t leave in a block of flats, we are in a upper cottage flat, so one below us. No lobbies or shared entrances.

@Floppy234 thanks that’s interesting, will bear in mind
