I mean really, literally millions of Britons are going to be making the choice to eat or heat in the coming weeks and months (if they’ve not already) and channel 4 are currently touting a programme where spending 3k per personon a holiday is considered cheap?!!!

AIBU to think channel 4 really haven’t read the room?

We’ve been there before. For years through the winter months when our DCs were little we’d go to bed early as it was too cold to sit in the lounge. In the autumn/spring my mum would freeze on visits to our house while the kids walked around in t-shirts as she was used to having her heating on but we weren’t.
I got a new job, self employed with more money. One month later covid came and I had no work and no money. Then came the massive credit card debt to pay for food.
Suddenly I can work again and think in 2-3yrs we’ll be debt free.
Nope that’s not going to happen now.
Kids even said “at least were used to being indoors with our coats on”
Yet there are definitely people far worse off than us. It’s dreadful

What’s a holiday? 🤷🏼‍♀️

LovejoysVase · 06/02/2022 19:32

They should also stop showing Grand Designs and all programs with people buying gorgeous houses, because I have a three bed semi.

Sparklesocks · 06/02/2022 19:38

No, I don’t take what other people are spending their money on personally.

Our holiday budget is usually about £900 for the 4 of us for four nights at Butlin's (although it's much pricier than that this summer so we're going elsewhere).

It would be a really dull holiday program if it was about holidays for our budget 'do we go for the just for tots weekend at Butlin's or 7 nights camping near Swindon'. I'd rather watch a program and dream about holidays of old and ones we may afford in the future.

YABU. It's a bit of escapism. And C4 cover these issues in factual programmes and raise awareness of peoples' experiences, in my view.

gogohm · 06/02/2022 19:59

We all have different budgets, we are spending the that because we are at a different life stage and Dp's business is booming

Georgeskitchen · 06/02/2022 20:20

TV is about escapism. Real life is miserable enough without showing miserable programmes. What's wrong with watching a bit of sunshine and nice houses?
