Complaining to an independent school

Posting here for traffic as this is pretty urgent.

Does anyone know the complaints procedure for a private school? And if the Governors are copied in on the complaint, does it have to stay on file for the next inspection, as I've been told that it would in a state school?

Thanks

Every school has a complaints policy that must be published on their website

You'd be best off looking up the school, if it's not clear just email for a clarification.

Thank you both very much

Read the complaints policy in detail and follow it. Then check the regulator eg ISI and read their guidelines too. Normally you can’t complain further until you have gone through the internal complaints policy first. Not all governing bodies are strong.

Of course, some people go to the press if it is a serious issue afterwards. However, be aware that you may need references or it could even impact on younger siblings etc.
It is a bit like a disagreement with an employer, many choose to just move on. However, that really shouldn’t be the case because the overriding principle of eg ISI what is in the best interests of the child and that is meant to apply to both headmaster/management and the governing body.
