Number of passengers in a two door car

My small 2 door hatch back has an official weight limit for passengers/luggage etc of 679kg, or 106 stones. Driver is about 12 stones, 1 passenger about 9 stone, 1 passenger 19 stone & the other 2 are about 13 stone, 66 stones. The 19 stone, 9 stone & 13 stone one were squashed in the back but still managed to get seat belts on. My dh has gone mad, saying its too much weight & if an accident had happened I'd be in trouble. The load was under the weight limit so who's bu, me or him?

I have never once paid any attention to the weight limit of my car!

Him

overthethamesfromyou · 05/02/2022 19:43

Did you ask their weight before they got in? Grin

Tibtab · 05/02/2022 19:45

If it had 5 seatbelts I would assume it could take 5 adults (although 4 would be more comfortable). I didn’t even realise my car had a weight limit.

mogsrus · 05/02/2022 19:45

If a car is designated as 3/ 4/5 seater it’s ok. Any more persons in it is not insured also the car becomes unstable by physics

FloatingAlien · 05/02/2022 19:54

Are you saying the combined weight of everyone was 66 stone and the car can hold 106 stone? So why would it be an issue?
Anyway I would assume a 2 door car could hold 5 people, wouldn't even consider their weight providing they could all fit

Dogmum40 · 05/02/2022 19:56

If it has 3 seatbelts in the back and obviously the driver and front passenger then it holds 5, If it just has two seatbelts in the back then it holds 4

Stressedout65 · 05/02/2022 20:00

@overthethamesfromyou if he'd have been there then there'd probably have been a weigh in 😁
But to me If there's 5 seatbelts & not over the weight limit then its OK for 5 adults. He still says it wouldn't do the suspension any good with that much weight in the back Fat shaming or what!

@FloatingAlien exactly my point. Combined weight limit is 106 stone, actual weight was 66 stone, so what is the problem? 5 seatbelts for 5 people. Wouldn't do the suspension any good with all that weight at the back he says. He is one of those super fussy about their cars men,
