Yes, I work for another CS department and enjoy it, a couple of family members do as well. The flexibility is unreal, people are nice, pension is good, I believe in what my team does (though that’s not going to be true everywhere), it’s reasonably engaging. The main downside is that some of the processes are agonisingly inefficient and slow.

Small caveat that I find I tend to enjoy most jobs, I am lucky in that respect. The only one I really hated was working in a theme park!

I used to work for DWP and really enjoyed it. Good teams, good management structure, career opportunities and a great social life. Plus discounts at various companies if you belonged to the the social club.

Echo pp, love my role, flexibility, and the pension keeps me here.

That said, there are numerous times recently I'd have quit because processes have been a nightmare.

Plus flexible working, (compressed hours, part time, term time, job share etc)

Yes I work for UKVI, been there over 20yrs, a few of those years in central Home Office. I run a team of around 50, I do really enjoy it. I think the civil service is a good place to work when you have kids, family friends and our team does flexi hours. The pension is good and the salary is decent with opportunity to work your way up if you put the work in. People always complain but there’s far worse places to work.

I'm staying for the flexible part time working. It's perfect for me right now.

I work for HMRC in a Senior role and I enjoy it. They are an excellent employer and you do benefit from flexi etc. I also have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how well they handled wfh during the pandemic. Don’t believe everything/anything you read in the press about the civil service we seem to be taking more of a bashing than usual!!

Thank you everyone! I’m loving the positive responses. I just read reviews online where people said of bullying, unfriendly teams and staff, tight work deadlines with unimaginable pressure from higher up/more senior staff, senior staff only caring about figures/stats etc! And a lot more. But it’s good to hear lots of people enjoy it!
