to use online psychics?

A lot is going on in our lives at the moment that we have no control over. I'm highly organised and really struggling with how to cope. I've been lying awake all night while DH snores away next to me- he doesn't seem to overthink as much as I do!

I was searching for something on Etsy and found tarot readers/psychics that offer one question for a very small fee. I've found myself sending questions at 4am and I find the answers reassuring- even if they're complete nonsense. It's very inexpensive and I have only done it a couple of times and have maybe spent £6 in total across four readings in the last month.

I don't even know if I believe in psychics but someone telling me that things will work out and our family will be ok is bringing me a lot of comfort but my husband thinks I've flipped! He isn't annoyed about it and says whatever helps is fine with him but he keeps teasing me about it and I'm quite embarrassed.

Well, it's nonsense as you know and you are spending money on it. Harmless if it stays at £6, less so if it grows.

I was struck by your first line "A lot is going on in our lives at the moment that we have no control over"- this sort of thing is a way to give yourself the illusion of control but it really is just an illusion. There are better ways to cope.

Thoosa · 04/02/2022 10:13

Personally, I’d look for something else that replaces that feeling for you, because online woo is a rip-off and will soon add up.

Parpophone · 04/02/2022 12:12

You would get the same result by getting a load of 20 pound notes and setting fire to them.

fluffiphlox · 04/02/2022 12:13

You must be mad.

fluffiphlox · 04/02/2022 12:15

Sorry rather blunt that but really, don’t bother. Have a bath instead.

ClariceQuiff · 04/02/2022 12:15

Not something I'd spend money on. If it's free and 'just for a laugh' perhaps, but it shouldn't be taken seriously.

hamstersarse · 04/02/2022 12:17

You can spend your money on whatever you chose.

Don't feel bad in any way. If it's reassuring, it's reassuring!

WindyState · 04/02/2022 12:25

Please don't encourage these people. While you may think it's a bit of harmless fun, these twats exploit a lot of people who need actual help rather than paying a complete fraud to offer meaningless platitudes.

There is no such thing as a genuine psychic. They are either frauds or deluded.

CoilWatershed · 04/02/2022 12:49

Like most other scam artists, they might start out asking for a few quid but it will escalate.

Absolutely this!
Lockheart · 04/02/2022 13:49

Ignoring the fact that it's all weapons-grade bollocks, do you not think that getting an actual vision into the future for the princely sum of £1.50 a go might suggest it's a bit fucking dodgy?

If I was truly psychic I'd charge a hell of a lot more than £1.50.

Wisemensay · 04/02/2022 13:53

My cousin died (about 15 years ago now) age 13. His mum started using these kind of things wanting to know if he was OK wherever he was, get messages to him etc. It started small and in the end cost her thousands and nearly here sanity. It's a slippery slope OP.

Mumoblue · 04/02/2022 13:58

Speaking as someone who occasionally reads tarot as a hobby (never for money and usually only for myself. I’ve done one or two for family but only at their insistence and with the disclaimer that A: I’m not very good at it and B: it’s not fucking magic) - why not buy yourself a tarot set? You can get ones bundled with books to teach yourself how to read it.

Personally, for me, tarot is about getting myself to look at issues from different angles. I don’t believe it predicts the future, I just use it to examine my life and thoughts.

The spending doesn’t seem like an issue at all, but maybe you’ll have more fun with a one off expense of getting your own set and learning how to do readings yourself.

If people are literally claiming to see the future- they’re having you on.

Cromple · 04/02/2022 14:01

You're wasting your money and funding scam artists. If you're struggling to cope talk to your doctor there are things/methods/therapies that can help your mind stop racing or help you sleep

I Understand your perspectives, I guess as long as you know it's mostly woo, and your sensible with costings, then all the best and positivity op. @sallyb79x

Hello @Exhaustedfromthis. Your experience sounds absolutely horrendous; I'm so sorry you had to go through this Flowers. It's good you have the small consolation of your mum being sober now.

You would probably be better off starting a new thread, in 'relationships' or 'legal' as you've posted on an old thread about psychics, so your post mightn't be seen by people who have relevant experience to offer advice.

BaileySharp · 17/09/2022 00:25

It's a load of rubbish but I guess if you find it reassuring and aren't spending top much its your choice? Be careful not to spend too much though as it is all nonsense

Augustus40 · 07/07/2024 04:41

I use Angel cards by Doreen Virtue rather than waste time and money on psychics.

Mursanello · 04/11/2024 11:18

I saw your post while looking for something and dabbled a bit in it. it’s fun to see what they come up with. It’s less about taking everything literally and more about getting a fresh perspective. Sometimes, they bring up things you might not think about on your own, which can be reassuring, especially if you're facing a big decision or just feeling stuck. I’ve even used a site called tarotoo a few times. Many different readers are there, so you can find someone who vibes with you. Just remember to take things with a grain of salt. It’s an excellent way to explore options, but nothing beats trusting your gut.
