How petty are you?

Just curious, what's the most petty thing you've done and why?

I recently bought a new car.
I wanted a specific make just because I knew it would piss off my DS as it's what she has always wanted ( we don't speak)
I didn't get it in the end, as dp said it was too small ( I personally would have still had it, but he was paying sooo...) I'm still annoyed that I didn't get it though 😣

I wouldn’t be basing any big purchase on pettiness although I admire you commitment to the cause…

PJsAndRainyDays · 03/02/2022 23:34

That's sounds kind of sad and horrible

Lockheart · 03/02/2022 23:38

Petty does by definition imply small / trivial.

Not sure buying a car to spite someone is in that league - that's rather beyond petty IMO!

I once took out all the red jellytots out of a bag because my sister liked them. Granted, we were eight and ten at the time.

eeek88 · 03/02/2022 23:53

When my senior colleague delegates work to me that she should be doing, I deliberately fill in forms for her really badly.

Superhanz · 03/02/2022 23:55

I can't imagine myself being that petty ever. Maybe when I was 15 but not as a grown woman.

Houseofvelour · 04/02/2022 00:05

Not me but DH.
Many moons before I was on the scene, he'd been married to someone else.
She'd always wanted a certain car and after years and years of saving, she finally got it.
When she ran off with someone else and he filed for divorce, he made sure he got that car just to piss her off and named it the Spite-mobile 😂

I've always admired that level of pettiness 😂

Years ago, popped round to my parents, DB was still living at home (maybe 18 at the time). Mum had just arrived home with the food shop and unpacked a bag of the bakery cookies - you all know what I mean. Clearly I was like 'ooh can I have one'. When DB pipes up 'f off hands off I asked for those' like the spoilt shit he still is! Cue 2 mins arguing at which poiny Mum sides with him and tells me I can have Harribo instead.

As I'm leaving later, everyone is sat in sitting room 'no no don't see me out' goes out via the kitchen door and and thinks I'm having one of those cookies...slipped one in my handbag....
But then out of sheer badness as I was almost out the door, crept back in, took the 4 remaining ones and took the biggest bite out of all of them in a pile together and put them back.

Then when I got home sent DB a text saying 'and I wiped a bogey on one but you'll never know which'

Will satisfy me into old age that 😌

As a student I went on a trip to France to travel and stay with a host family. We had gone out one night and one of the boys in the friend group was just an arrogant ass. Apparently he didn’t like Americans. After an evening of smug comments and insults. I overheard him talking about Dallas (the tv show). Apparently he didn’t hate everything about America.

So I find out that he is several seasons behind as it had ended in the US by that point, but was still in it’s first run in France. As we were leaving, I said goodbye and whispered in his ear “It was all Bobby’s dream and JR, gets shot”

The crestfallen look on his smarmy smug face was priceless!

BlippiPoops · 04/02/2022 01:29

I'm not petty but my husband is.
I need to get work done for a course I start and he's told me he gets disturbed by the kids when he tries to work so he's going to deliberately make sure I get disturbed/make no effort to stop them.

When me and my best mate were about 16, thinking we were fully grown women haha, we were babysitting for her cousins children who were all in bed. My friends cousin was in her mid twenties and was everything we wanted to be, beautiful, confident and well just an actual adult who was desirable to men. She came home with these 2 blokes she knew and they were all drunk. The men were really sexist and treating us like little idiot children and expecting us to do things for them because we were females. Things like making drink and fetching them things. I can’t remember the full details now but they just kept winding us up, taking the mik out of us and making us the punchline of all their drunken jokes, and there was us thinking they would see us as beautiful young ladies 🤣 This carrier on for so long. They got us to make a brew for them. As we were in the kitchen away from them my friend got some laxative Liquid 🤦‍♀️ so we added a load to their drinks. As they were drinking them they were saying they tasted weird so we pretended to be offended that we’d gone out of our way to make them drinks after they were so rude to us. About half an hour later it was carnage 🤣 I just remember them both trying to get the inside bathroom going redder and redder in the face! Thankfully she had an extra outdoor toilet hahaha

The things they were shouting 🤣🤣🤣
I know it’s awful but they deserved it hahaha

So you married someone who was so petty they took away a lump of metal (which is all a car is), just to spite another human being. Can't you see that with his mindset, your husband has the capacity to be equally mean to you and/ or any children you have. Just as well you're attracted to small-mindedness, hopefully it won't backfire on you.

That’s not so much petty as really nasty.
daisychain01 · 04/02/2022 03:47

Why do women hero-worship arseholes?

Genuine question.

ilovesooty · 04/02/2022 05:09

I don't generally have any time for pettiness. I think life's too short.

However I was amused by someone I knew who was getting divorced and whose husband was insisting on a strict 50:50 division of the furniture. She went into the house while he was out to get her share and while she was there she sawed the sofa in half.

SleepyJackson · 04/02/2022 05:19

DH started running when dc were babies. He ran a lot. Never especially minded except when he took forever to get out house, especially for long run. It was so frustrating - it'd mean his long runs took over Sundays. Or he'd potter around for ages getting ready, but then only leave when a dc woke up Hmm

When I started running, I just couldn't help it. I would take so so long every time I left the house. We both knew why I was doing it but it kind of went unspoken.

Nowayoutonlydown · 04/02/2022 05:56

Two petty things I've done recently that spring to mind.
FIL turned up unexpectedly at 07:40 one morning, I was quite early on in pregnancy, I was dealing with insomnia, and sickness. Feeling pretty rough I was in my pj's eating breakfast. He just wouldn't let it lie. He went on and on and on. Now my pj's consist of a pair of ankle length trousers and top, and a nightgown thats massive and also goes down to my ankle so it wasn't that I was less than covered up.
He just kept going on, commenting I needed to go and get dressed.

Well I got pissed off, I came upstairs, I had a shower. I got dressed, into fresh pyjamas and refused to get dressed for the rest of the day.

I also ate portions of the Toblerone I bought DH for Christmas, each time he was a dick. I wrote on the box what he had done each time. I never gave it to him, but he did find it. He says it's proof this pregnancy has turned me into a new level of monster.

Houseofvelour · 04/02/2022 08:06

@daisychain01 😂 omg some people on here need to get a grip. My husband is genuinely the loveliest person you could meet and in the 7 years we've been together, he's been nothing short of incredible thanks.
She cheated on him and he was angry so he took her car in the divorce 🙃 I've done a lot worse after being cheated on 🤷‍♀️

ufucoffee · 04/02/2022 08:09

That's not petty it's just daft. Buying something that's too small for your needs is just silly.

SnotRags · 04/02/2022 08:13

The bun story was funny but the OP and others are quite sad.

I don’t have the energy to be that petty
