Injured when Covid positive

I am having a stupid week and now I have a stupid injury. DH, DS and I have all had both a stomach big and Covid (don't ask me how I know they are two different bugs... long story). Anyway, we're just mildly unwell now with Covid and obviously isolating until next week.

Yesterday I got a splinter under my big toenail. We removed what we could but it's so angry this morning - I suspect I need the rest removed by a HCP and antibiotics. It's got very hot and puffy and red very quickly.

AIBU to have no idea where to turn during our isolation? Presumably GP and A&E won't want to see me?

Still lots of support for covid positive patients! Call 111 to get triaged right.

SoupDragon · 03/02/2022 08:23

GP might be able to do it via a phone/video call

SoupDragon · 03/02/2022 08:24

(Antibiotics, not remove anything! I missed that bit.)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/02/2022 08:24

You can go to A and E,just follow the instructions when you are there as there will be a separate entrance/ reception for isolating or positive people. Worth ringing beforehand to check.

Calmestofallthechickens · 03/02/2022 08:26

Your GP will probably be happy to remotely prescribe antibiotics but as it’s not life threatening to get it removed, I suspect to be seen in person you will have to wait until your isolation is over. In the meantime bathing it in warm antiseptic solution may help.

MsAgnesDiPesto · 03/02/2022 08:26

Phone your GP - they will advise on what you can do. They will certainly prescribe for you, and if they think you need to be seen, there are ways they can do it with the right preparation.

In the meantime, smother it with Savlon or Germolene, whatever antiseptic you have in your first aid kit, and stick a big plaster over it to keep the cream on the area.

Toanewstart22 · 03/02/2022 08:27

Just give your surgery a call

DeathMetalMum · 03/02/2022 08:27

Ring 111. They will definitely be able to sort the antibiotics out, and advise or organise treatment.

Porcupineintherough · 03/02/2022 08:29

Speak to your gp. Also, soak foot in hot, salty water.

blobby10 · 03/02/2022 08:30

Whilst you are on the phone, stick your foot in a bowl of warm salt water and soak.. The salt will help to disinfect the area and also draw out the infection.

ShallWeTalkAboutBruno · 03/02/2022 08:30

Our local GP is seeing covid positive patients in a ‘hot’ room, if people need seeing then they need seeing. Patients can’t be ignored just because they have a virus.
I would phone the GP and explain the situation.

Mindymomo · 03/02/2022 08:31

If you have to go to A&E there should be 2 zones, red and green, you need to go to the red zone. They will see you there, don’t bother with GP, as it sounds like whatever is still there, needs taking out.

esloquehay · 03/02/2022 08:33

Get antibiotics remotely prescribed and cut the splinter out yourself?
