My 4 month old stopped babbling

My son has completed 4 months fee days back. It has been 5 days and he has stopped babbling. We used to enjoy a lot and was too happy to see him babble. We are little worried what made him stop. Apart from this all the other activities are fine and as usual. One new thing I have noticed is; it seems he loves playing with his tongue, he kept on rolling it towards right, like he has something got stuck in the inner right cheek. From an old post I got to know that when babies learn new things they stop doing one. I really hope and believe this is true.

I want to see him making sounds which I miss a lot these days.

Please post and help if you have similar experience

I think that sometimes babies do get distracted for a while by a new skill. Try to encourage the babbling by looking directly at your baby when they're happy and alert, ask questions and pause to see if you get an answer.
If in a couple of weeks your baby is still quiet then give the HV a phone.

He’s just working on something new. When babies discover babbling they do it a lot because it’s fun and novel. And then they get in to doing or focussing on something else 👍🏼

As PP said, a lot of times babies will abandon an acquired skill while they focus on learning a new one. I wouldn't worry yet.

Yip, my boy done this too. Had me worried. He's now 7 months and makes lots of different sounds. Ssssssss is his favourite at the minute😂along with owowow😂

Do you speak more than one language at home?

We're a bilingual family, and my DD has had silent periods where she seems to just be absorbing the different sounds

Thank you all for your replies, really very helpful and encouraging.

To add on, we have been using one language so that the baby don’t get confused. We try to communicate with him a lot and try to make him smile or laugh.
I have noticed many a times that he opens his mouth to make some sound and he tries hard but unable to, seems he has forgotten how to.

Also, we reached out to our pediatrician and she suggested to wait for 2 to 4 days and if he doesn’t start making any sound then I should reach out to speech language pathologist.

I really hope that it comes back soon.

Hi,

Just wanted you’ll to let know that he has started babbling again and I am so happy. Seems he forgot due to one day gap of not speaking anything, the day when he was very down. Thank god and thanku all for sharing your experiences.

Vandana 😊😊
