Had a comment from a colleague about someone singing on the street “that he was my dad.” Father passed away last year. AIBU?

The collegue said your dad was singing in the street, but your dad died last year?

Its not clear what happened exactly.

What?

123goandrun · 02/02/2022 15:17

Yes, exactly that. Someone in the middle asked who was singing in the street and colleague said “it’s her dad”

Cross post. I’d just let that go, it obviously wasn’t serious or meant to upset you

Toucan123 · 02/02/2022 15:18

Are you being unreasonable about what? What are you asking exactly?

ChudraWouldaShouldya · 02/02/2022 15:18

Is it National Butt-Hurt over nothing day or what today?

Not much clearer. Someone in the middle of what or where?
123goandrun · 02/02/2022 15:19

I mentioned about it the next day. Perhaps should have let it go. Just felt like there was no need to mention my dad in this all.

That was a bit harsh OP, apologies and sorry about your dad.

In all honestly though, it sounds like an off the cuff (albeit not funny) remark than wouldn’t have been intended to offend.

In the words of Elsa….

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 02/02/2022 15:20

I'd let it go too, your dad's death will, understandably, be at the forefront of your mind, but others will have forgotten.

It was a weird remark to make though.

VariationsonaTheme · 02/02/2022 15:21

Maybe I’ve been having a hard day, but I’ve read this three times now and it still doesn’t make sense to me!

MumsMetHer · 02/02/2022 15:21

That's... confusing Confused

I'd ask what he meant. Literally his father? Reminds him of his father?

123goandrun · 02/02/2022 15:22

I just didn’t find it funny. And the conversations before hand weren’t involving my father at all. So for someone who works with me to comment out of the blue thought was insensitive.
