Report or not?

We have lived in our current flat for 5 nearly 6 years. In that time we've had regular issues with random people coming into our garden (front) and urinating. It pissed me off when we first moved in and it still pisses me off now. I cannot get my head around what sort of person thinks it's okay to do something like this.

Today, as I was taking DD to nursery I caught a bloody bin man urinating. I told him to get out and he said 'oh I'm doing it against the wall' as if that somehow makes it better. Perhaps I should be grateful it wasn't against my front door. In any event he still had his genitals out and is urinating on someone's private property.

I'm extremely tempted to report him to the local borough council but given he knows I was the one yelling at him and where I live, I don't want any issues to come back. But I'm so angry and so fed up of living here. (We are selling soon).

YABU - don't report
YANBU - do report him.

I'd put an electric fence up on the wall.

nonevernotever · 02/02/2022 09:22

I'd report him. And I'd be telling the council that they need to make appropriate arrangements for their staff to have access to toilets, and that doesn't include your front garden.

SnotRags · 02/02/2022 09:24

Why would you not report him?? He’s a disgusting Neanderthal - just because he happens to have a penis he thinks he’s entitled to piss up a wall in public? Imagine a woman doing that?

Suzanne999 · 02/02/2022 09:25

Report him. If you’re in UK it’s illegal to urinate in public. On those 999 programmes police are always picking up people urinating in the street, think they usually get a caution.

AndAnotherNewOne · 02/02/2022 09:26

Of course report him.

Jacaranda75 · 02/02/2022 09:26

Fuck yes! Report the filthy creature.

Alfredsothermistress · 02/02/2022 09:30

Definitely report.

I’m just incredulous that people think it’s ok to urinate on your property.

I’m intrigued. What is it about your property that results in random people using it to urinate? And even, as in the case with this bin man, think it is excusable?

There is a huge tree which is on our neighbours garden and hangs over ours. It seems to hide people away from the road. I can't track the owner down and we are in a conservation area and apparently the council won't let us trim back the branches without the owners consent.

I'm going to do a land registry search on the neighbouring property today because I'm so sick of this sort of thing and see if we can get anywhere with trimming the tree.

Stick a sign up saying you have CCTV.

We had a similar issue with school kids as there’s a really secluded corner bit of our garden with an old brick shelter near a new main path. If they weren’t pissing they were smoking or having teenage fumblings .

No issues since the sign went up. In fact amusingly two older teens who are clearly a couple asked me rather nervously, when I was hanging washing, if the CCTV was put in the same day as the sign and not the day before.

Theunamedcat · 02/02/2022 09:38

Yes report are they doing it near a window? Put a picture of a face on it and a sign saying my child can see you pee?

PikachuAndMe · 02/02/2022 09:39

Yanbu

Excellent. I wouldn’t have been able to resist saying “the CCTV has been there the whole time. The sign, not so much.”

I would have thought automatic sprinklers were the way forward here op.

kirinm · 02/02/2022 10:52

After A LOT of searching, I've found the names of the freeholders. Unsurprisingly they own hundreds of buildings no doubt left in the same shit repair as this one with the tree. I am going to see if I can get them to consent to / contribute to the costs of trimming the tree - that will at least given the pissers less chance of being spotted.

I've also contacted the council with a complaint.

Get a motion-activated water sprayer pointed at that area. Dirty swines.
