To ask you if your white ikea kitchen is also turning yellow?!

Posting here for traffic as I thought this might get missed in DIY.
So.. we bought an ikea kitchen in 2017 it’s white it has white doors white cover panels etc. The cover panels have yellowed, not just like settled in kind of change of colour - like they are actually a creamy yellow compared to the the rest of the kitchen. So we have a crazy mellow yellow stripe between appliances and on the end of the kitchen. Also the edges of the doors which seem to be made from the same material have started to yellow. On some of the doors where the edging material meets the door the glue is visible and this has gone very dark. Basically it looks a mess.
We were part of a large group of customers who bought a kitchen in 2017 from ikea and had the fit botched by a company that ikea employed freelance to fit it.
They were great they refitted the kitchen with another supplier and at the time we were happy enough after a massive wait, (over three months!) with no kitchen and three small kids.
So basically I have a white kitchen with yellow stripes which look awful that’s been fitted twice. I contacted IKEA with photos and then videos, they have replied to say… wait for it… it’s “normal” and that we should just accept the yellow stripes. Obviously nobody is going to do that. So I’m wondering, is your white ikea kitchen still white? Are you part of the large group of people who had to have their kitchen refitted/delayed in 2017 has that kitchen caused you further problems? And also if anybody has any trading standards or legal advice for me if he very pleased to find out where we stand. I’m going to contact trading standards today. Just to be clear also- I really am not interested in any replies which say yellowing is normal.

Not an IKEA kitchen but my very expensive vinyl wrapped doors have started doing this. And yes to the tape . Around the island it looks awful.snd really bothers me.

Confusedmeanderings · 13/11/2022 03:12

We installed a white IKEA kitchen around the same time and its still white. I would be annoyed if it did yellow though.

Era · 13/11/2022 04:03

Can’t you get a paint that is colour matched and touch up the little strips?

insweetharmony · 13/11/2022 04:13

Mine’s still white. From 2015

ChristmasisRuined · 13/11/2022 04:26

Did you purchase on a credit card OP? Or using a debit card? If either, contact your CC provider or bank and raise a section 7 claim if it's a CC or a visa chargeback dispute if debit debit card

OhwhatnowIneedawee · 13/11/2022 05:32

Not a kitchen but my bathroom unit is doing the same now. Really annoying.

Snnowflake · 13/11/2022 05:34

Does your kitchen get a lot of direct sunlight?

sunnydayhereandnow · 13/11/2022 06:19

Mine from 2016 is still white. I live somewhere with way stronger sunlight than the UK and I never heard of this happening to anyone. Maybe the materials got damp or exposed to something?

daretodenim · 13/11/2022 06:37

I have a white gloss ikea kitchen that was installed about 7years ago. We moved in 3 years ago and got an extra cupboard custom-built using ikea white gloss kitchen parts so it matches. It's all still white.

Probably not what you want to hear though!

Bllueblazerblack · 13/11/2022 06:40

Our former home, now a rental, has a white IKEA kitchen and apart from some minor wear, it's still as white as when it was installed in 2007.

Pepperama · 13/11/2022 06:41

No - 10 years in, still white

Tigertigertigertiger · 13/11/2022 06:48

Can you post photos please ?

Ohheythereitsme · 13/11/2022 06:52

I have heard of this happening before with where kitchens actually. It’s one of the reasons we’ve decided not to install one.

Ohheythereitsme · 13/11/2022 06:53

White*

Awumminnscotland · 13/11/2022 06:55

I second PPs question re direct sunlight. My bathrooms have no sunlight in one with no windows and v limited in the other. It is apparently normal for it to yellow within a couple of years with limited sunlight. Could this be true for white kitchen products that aren't wood too?

Awumminnscotland · 13/11/2022 06:56

Oh forgot to say in both the woodwork is yellow.

Honeynutcheerios · 13/11/2022 06:59

Do you smoke?

purplethings · 13/11/2022 07:00

Can you bleach it white again ?

ummmwtaf · 13/11/2022 07:10

purplethings · 13/11/2022 07:00

Can you bleach it white again ?

Bleach can rurn things yellow.

Kochicoo · 13/11/2022 07:20

I heard it was sunlight too. My cupboards next to the window started to yellow but the cupboards with no sun stayed white. I told someone and they acted like everyone knew that happened to white gloss cupboards. Not necessarily what you want to do but I painted the doors with white V33 cupboard paint and the whole kitchen looked much better.

NotLovingWFH · 13/11/2022 07:25

We have a white gloss kitchen not from ikea that this has happened to, in a north facing kitchen so it’s definitely not too much sun that’s causing it. It’s about the same age as your though and I hate it. I will replace it one day when I can afford to.

Covetthee · 13/11/2022 07:26

Does your kitchen get direct sunlight onto the cupboards?

this happened to my cupboards in the conservatory. The sun constant sun changes the tone.

Emilizz34 · 13/11/2022 09:05

I have one for 9 years and it’s still snow white

ummmwtaf · 13/11/2022 09:28

If you don't get a result from IKEA can you just replace the doors? Even if you replace the doors on every unit it's far cheaper than buying a new kitchen. Maybe IKEA would pay for this as a compromise?
