IE breast enhancement, fillers and other stuff to the face to make it look more young womanly, dieting and exercise to create and maintain a shape that conforms to ideals of femininity or ‘roids and bulking up in the gym for the chaps.

I think they’re for anyone who wants them or has been conditioned to think they do. I very much conform to my gender but don’t engage with any of that at all.

Yeah I get that, I just never thought of any of it as gender affirming until today. Now I can’t unsee it, it’s everywhere!

@SportsMother

I think they are for the doctor’s bank balance.

I think so. I have had a big problem with the breast enhancement industry. I wont go into it in detail but i think there is a link between sexual abuse when a child and some of these procedures. (Not all obviously)

Porcupineintherough · 29/01/2022 09:39

I'm not sure the things you mention are done to "affirm gender" I'd say they were mostly done to maintain or augment sexual attractiveness.

Ylfa · 29/01/2022 09:51

Yeah of course but that’s so bound up with gender norm expression isn’t it? Or is it?

The shape that are deemed attractive do vary over time so there must be an element of gender ( society expectations) in there
