How do you keep your ASN tween safe online if you cant sit with them and monitor their every move? Which parental controls do you use?

My autistic tween has been repeatedly making unwise and unsafe online decisions and not learning from them. She's been taught internet safety through Youtube videos and courses and has chosen to ignore it. Is this a phase? Will she eventually be able to have unsupervised access? Have I been teaching her wrong?

I think you have no choice other than completely removing online access
How old is she?

Merryoldgoat · 28/01/2022 21:06

You have to remove her internet access.

AgathaMystery · 28/01/2022 21:06

I going to say remove all devices but I think you’re going to say you can’t - in which case, I guess you just have to hope for the best.

At a minimum, parental controls on her phone, xbox and laptop and/or any other devices. We have Family Link and the Sky broadband has a filter. Failing that, no internet or she is not allowed to use the internet unsupervised.

If she isn’t able to safely use the internet you need to be a parent and restrict access until she can.

Clearly that’s not yet.

No unsupervised access.

It's not worth it.

I don't brr et liege banking it helps. They need to learn how to navigate safely.
I have a similar situation and I do spot checks as well as parental controls. She isn't allowed or able to add anyone we don't know to her contacts. No tik tok, no Facebook, no Snapchat. Just messenger snd restricted you tube

Set her up to use it downstairs in the family room so you are around. Show interest in the games etc she plays so she talks to you and shares. Get one of the home hub things which allows you to set different access for different people in the house and to see what websites they are on. Set her preferences for <13 so tiktok etc is blocked. I told my dd no friends online that she has never met in person and I ask to see who she is online with every now and then and check who they are at school/clubs.
