Taking inspiration from another thread.. and to be honest a bit worried from reading it - has anyone got some advice on where to stay / where not to stay in Paris?

I'm already booked to go in the summer for a concert at the Stade de France.. so I've got to stay somewhere! It's a minefield looking at air bnb's and hotels.

What areas are to be avoided and what areas are nice to stay?

PS I know IABU for posting on this board but I'm after honest opinions and we all know this is the best place to get them...

Latin quarter.

We love the Marais, always stay there.

Depending on the budget there is a gorgeous hotel called:

Caron de Beaumarchais on the rue Vieille due Temple, its like walking into Marie Antoinette's parlour.

We went a few weeks ago. Stayed in St Germain (6th arrondissement) near Odeon metro stop. Lovely hotel (Odeon hotel) great location. Stade de France is easy from there, metro to Châtelet then RER to St Denis.

Montmartre is just too full of tourists for my liking and isn't easy transport wise

I adore Paris but agree some areas are a bit seedy and intimidating at night. For that reason, we like to stay somewhere central with lots of bars and restaurants in walking distance, avoiding the need for late night travel on the métro. Latin Quarter or Marais good for this. Hotel Albe St Michel is handy for bars and transport. Nothing spectacularly posh and you won’t have a huge suite but it’s clean, safe and in a good location m.hotelalbestmichel.com/en/

We had a lovely trip staying in the 13th A Butte aux Cailles area. Felt like ‘proper’ Paris, cobbled streets, fab bars and restaurants, more locals than tourists. Walkable to place d’italie and easy to get around.

Montmartre

Marais / Place des Vosges area

Well heeled area (but not designer flashy) with nice shops and restaurants, very central.

Montmartre is cute but quite far out.

I used to live in Montparnasse, lots of lovely hotels, quite quiet and pretty central.

I really like the 10th, around the Canal St Martin. It’s got a low-key vibe (handy for the Eurostar too!). There’s a great bakery called Du Pain Et Des Idees which is a must.
