I do think it makes people think more when they’re shown the other side of it. This anti fox hunt one always gets me

SlashBeef · 27/01/2022 12:02

Not really 🤷‍♀️
The fox hunting one is powerful though.

Winniemarysarah · 27/01/2022 12:16

I think it’s hard to empathise with a cartoon version, the drawings and over exaggeration of things make it seem unrealistic. I’ve just remembered one that upset me about abandoned dogs. It’s similar to the fox hunting one where you’re just following the storyline of one animal and you can imagine what they’re going through. You don’t really realise it’s about a dog until the end. I’ll try and find it..

All three powerful and beautiful in different ways. But @Winniemarysarah's got me on a personal level as ddog was abandoned like that. She's currently wondering why I'm ugly crying and giving her a large share of my lunch.

thegiftrift · 27/01/2022 12:35

oh gosh the dog one too. how sad. we really are a sick species.
the cartoon one reminded me of the part of Avatar when the boss says to keep the diggers going 'they'll move' and they fucking kill everything.

A piece of woodland near me is going to be developed over and in the ecological report it says to check the site every morning for trapped, injured and dead dear. We live in a city and they are still developing every available greenspace
they leave the deserted carparks and decapitated buildings though.

My dad tied my dog to the railings of the closed dogs home. it was closed for the weekend and he got him back a week or so later. I can't believe they gave him back.

OMG

That's broken me

Thelnebriati · 27/01/2022 14:54

But what action will you take to make a change? Because if the answer is 'none' then this is just a wierd kind of misery porn.

PinkSyCo · 27/01/2022 15:20

It’s a reminder of how destructive humankind is but I can’t say it makes me feel distressed no, possibly because it’s an animation. The abandoned child/dog video however did bring a tear to the eye. Sad

Heartbreaking 💔

Cocomarine · 27/01/2022 16:01

Not in the slightest.
From the first scene it’s clear the whole thing is just going to be an inversion of what humans do to animals and their environment.
Not particularly clever, and I don’t need someone to make it about humans to make me realise it’s an important issue.
Great if it gets the message over to someone - but didn’t move me at all.
Almost irritating in fact, the idea that to actually care, we have to imagine it is done to us.

Phos · 27/01/2022 16:31

No, not really. Animation doesn't really evoke any kind of empathy, it's completely predictable from the start, the music is offputting. The messages may be important but it's not that well executed.

lljkk · 27/01/2022 16:42

People as victims of human pollution: doesn't really speak to me, but ok video. It should speak to me, environmental degradation is arguably the greatest human crime.

Fox hunting: stupid, hysterical

Gift one: I can't agree animal rights = human rights, so the whole premise of these videos, that they are supposed to be more hard hitting because we see emotions & fear like we can't see in the faces of real animals that experience this shit. Stuff that.

Last 2 are too emotive for me to engage with. In a world where everyone wants to exploit your emotions - fat failure for me.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/01/2022 18:22

@thegiftrift poor dog Sad that must have been horrible for you, how old were you?

Ddog has been getting many extra strokes today!
