Second smear test?

Hi everyone
Just had my 2nd smear ( I'm 28)
There was blood on the brush afterwards the nurse said this is fine an I had a tiny bit of cervical erosion. Has anyone else bleed after a smear and then been fine I feel worried sick!
Thank you

I bleed quite a bit every time. It's not unusual or seen as a concern. Tests have come back clear. The only concern is if there is too much blood in the sample they can't always test it and you could be called back in to have a second test. I get told this every time (at least 6 smears) and haven't needed to return.

That is reassuring to hear thank you. The sample pot was slightly pink tinged but she didn't mention me possibly having to return so fingers crossed it will come back ok 🤞🏻

My nurse said it was totally normal too, and my results came back with no further action needed.

I'm 60 and this has happened at every smear I've ever had. It 's quite normal for some of us and not indicative of underlying problems.

This happened to me a few years ago and i was sent for a colposcopy, which ruled out anything untoward.

Has anyone had their smear recently? How long was the wait for results the nurse said up to 6 weeks but that seems awfully long?!

I bleed every time and I've also had cervical erosion which they used to think led to cancer but it doesn't. It can cause bleeding at other times though eg mid cycle, after sex.

I had my result within a week but I think she said 2-3 weeks. It probably varies around the country and I had mine before the Omicron outbreak.

Butternutsqoosh · 27/01/2022 10:49

I usually spot after a smear but I have at least one a year, I had a cervical cone biopsy several years ago after a bad result and I think it makes it more difficult to get a sample each year so I often have to go back for a second attempt at it! Try not to worry, the main thing is, you went! My results usually take about 2 weeks to come through but I expect it depends where in the country you are

I bleed after every smear and have never had a result that wasn’t clear. I got my last result after 3 weeks (was mid pandemic).

I was told in my area results could take up to 12 weeks. My smear was 25th Nov and the results letter was dated 7th Dec.

I think they're saying 6 weeks as a possibility. I was told that in mid November and the result was back in 10 days which was a relief. Hopefully the wait won't be long for you.
Twizbe · 27/01/2022 11:28

Very common to bleed a bit from a smear. Much better though now they use the brush. The old way was a lot less comfortable.

Results will be through soon, the longer the wait the better the news.
