Feel very down over theft

Won't say what it is but it's a very common theft. It was a possession I had only had for a couple of months, and even though it was in part my fault for not taking even further steps, the theft involved a break in that should not have happened.

I have zero proof of the theft, so cannot claim for anything. Police likely won't do anything.
.
I am devastated and constantly beating myself up, worried that people think I'm an idiot and full of regret. I can get another one eventually, but it's so commonly stolen, it makes you feel like you can't have anything.

Has anyone else been through this and how did you move on?

Do you have proof of the break-in, a crime number? And proof of the purchase of the item? Because if so surely you can claim on home insurance?
Sorry OP it is shit. I've had things nicked and twice through a break in. It does leave you wobbly. Does your home feel secure?

I am really sorry. Just put it down to experience and try to move on from it. I understand how losing something can be so devastating no matter how common. You will be moving into a bigger space soon so can get another one and lock it inside. I am sorry.

I have zero proof of the break in sadly. So I could have just as well as hidden the item somewhere and claimed it's been stolen.

I've got a crime number and proof of purchase but yeah zero proof

Sadly the home is not secure, it's shared and for instance this morning I went downstairs and the front door was left wide open.

I complained to the agency but they don't seem that bothered

Sorry to hear you've had things taken too :(

Thank you. I know people who've been victims of theft with even the strongest possible security measures so it just makes me feel that it'll never be totally secure
