Threads should be automatically locked after a certain period of time since the last post. Maybe have it that the OP can reactivate it, but not other people.

oh I like it when I read a thread and then realise it was from 2016. It reminds me that every problem or bad day is irrelevant in the end. Especially the ones about wedding invites or that day a ladies kids have stressed her so much she cried. It's nice.
