Plantation shutters

I live on a new build estate. All houses look pretty much the same and the front of houses are close to the pavement so it’s hard not to glance in when walking by as most houses have a large three pane upvc window. Most people have installed blinds or shutters to the front windows. We had plantation shutters fitted when we moved in. Three sections and they line up with the 3 window panes. The people across the road have just installed the same shutters, upstairs and downstairs, but they all have 4 panels. From the outside it really bothers me that the panels don’t line up with the windows.

YABU - non of your business, keep walking by and stop being nosy
YANBU - what were they thinking, where is their symmetry

Well that would bother me too because I've got OCD BUT def none of your business and in fact some might say that 4 is more symmetrical than 3 as two can fold off to each side Wink

dingledanglewoowoo · 23/01/2022 21:16

I can't visualise how three panels would fold when open, though?

Keeva2017 · 23/01/2022 21:17

Of course YANBU. It sounds like the work of psychopaths!

Although I do have an issue with things me aligned correctly. But I stand by my opinion. Psychopaths.

Aprilx · 23/01/2022 21:48

YANBU. We also installed plantation shutters and it was three shutter sections for three window section. I am amazed the fitter didn’t tell them they couldn’t have four shutters. 😅

@mrsericabana true Grin but when you live on the human equivalent of a rabbit warren, you put shutters up and never open them. The bottom half of ours are permanently closed so we dont have to put up with other people like me don’t walk along, staring in and judging.

@dingledanglewoowoo see attached but as above opening is not necessary.

@keeva2017 thank you! This has summed up my thoughts. I now need a five year plan to get out of the rabbit warren before neighbours catch me!

My eye would be drawn to that every day for as long as the shutters remained and it would annoy me every single time.

Dasher789 · 23/01/2022 21:52

@aprilx so many people on our estate have them and everyone has three. I had never given it a thought u til I got home today to discover these lunatics have installed 4 - on all three front facing three paned windows. Thank goodness we have shutters and I only need to see them when I’m outside but we really will need to move asap Grin

Dasher789 · 23/01/2022 21:55

@elliesattler not sure if I should post a note to ask if they could do the neighbourly thing and order new shutters asap

Call 111 and get it logged. They're probably serial killers.

VestaTilley · 23/01/2022 22:19

YABU to have shutters at all Grin - they’ll look so dated in a few years time. We’ve moved in to a house with them; I can’t stand them but we’re having to keep them in for resale value and because we can’t afford to replace them anyway. They always look like they’re made of plastic to me.

Dasher789 · 23/01/2022 22:25

@sillybub yay my first MN diagram!

@vestatilley how else can you stop random people watching masterchef with you when you live 4 foot from the pavement and you still want to let in light. Blinds can't close bottom up so they are a necessity for new build living, dated or not!

@Dasher789 I am very honoured to be the recipient of your first ever diagram and what an outstanding diagram it was. Bravo.

I can now sleep happy, fully understanding the issue. However I may have nightmares about the teeth itching utter fuck up your neighbours have subjected you to.

I hope you can sell up quickly Flowers

HappyDays40 · 24/01/2022 00:42

You do realise that you need to declare neighbour disputes if you move? Grin I know they don't know they are part of a dispute but still Wine

HappyDays40 · 24/01/2022 00:42

I'm messing BTW.

Dasher789 · 24/01/2022 10:17

@happydays40 even if I don’t declare it, this crime against public decency is clear for all to see. I am snookered!

Thankfully I have made it through the night.

I feel you OP. One of the houses near me added an extension a couple of years ago and didn't match the windows with the existing windows - every time I pass that house it annoys me Grin

DustyMaiden · 24/01/2022 12:20

Opposite neighbours have added an extension with two windows over to one side. Not evenly spaced and put the down pipe in the middle of the windows.
Crazy.
