Doing a job outside your expertise?

How do you manage it?
I’ve built up my experience in a particular area over a decade and finally comfortable with my subject matter but due to senior management in my area of work leaving the company now being out on projects that are totally outside my expertise. I have no support and no desire to learn new stuff as I have a family and life outside work now so not willing to work all hours like I used to when I was younger. I’m looking for a new job but in the meantime what do I do? I’ve got so used to doing a good job that I’m struggling with the thought of underperforming. Anyone else been through this?

I like learning new stuff.
Work would be so boring if never challenging.

i must be the best candidate since they stopped looking at me & if I'm learning on the job, that's fine, they knew my background, that this was what would happen.

Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions & admit all the things you don't know. Admitting what you don't know is hugely liberating.
