Pervy creep or reasonable explanation I'm missing?

Was at the national gallery today, happened to spot a bloke taking a picture of one of the paintings of a naked lady... Not unusual lots of people doing so. But then he zoomed in on her exposed boob. Really zoomed in, cropped the rest of the picture out.

Me, DH and MIL were pretty much speechless. They laughed it off at the time, but it actually weirded me out a bit. Is there a reasonable explanation I'm missing or was he a creep? Surely if he was admiring the art he'd take a picture of the whole painting and not just the boob?

The weird thing is that you have the reaction to breasts in art, OP, which has already been passed onto your 6 year old.

@TerraNovaTwo

Imagine if it was a woman going around the national gallery zooming in on paintings showing the scrotum. 😂
For every painted scrotum there are probably about 50,000 painted breasts. Just an estimate but I doubt I've exaggerated that - more likely an underestimate. Less true of sculpture - think Michelangelo.

I would say this happens pretty regularly.
How many memes are there about the size of Michael Angelos tiny manhood.

He sounds a bit immature and is planning to send it to his friends/wife as he thinks it’s funny.

AuntyBumBum · 23/01/2022 13:57

Is it really shocking or pervy for a man to like breasts? Why do you think they were popular in renaissance art!

(It's quite a bit weirder to be looking over people's shoulders at their phone screens to see what they're photographing.)

TheHoptimist · 23/01/2022 14:00

Why is it perverted?
Wether or not he is an artist it isnt in any way perverted to take a photo of a painted breast

It is more bizarre that you think it is?
Admiring the human from through art- as the artist intended.

They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,

Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

amnm · 23/01/2022 14:05

I really don't think it had a pervy motive. If someone is interested in breasts, then there are plenty of other ways to find pictures than going to a museum.

User48751490 · 23/01/2022 14:07

He has made a right boob of it.

Sorry🙈

YourVagesty · 23/01/2022 14:11

He mightve been taking a picture of that bit to send a 'funny' text to a mate or something. I wouldn't really bother thinking about it again.

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 24/01/2022 09:12

I have also found that when I am painting I dont necessarily think about what part of the body it is, as much as the light, colours, brush strokes etc. So it is quite possible he was caught up with that without necessarily thinking what it would have looked like.

Porcupineintherough · 24/01/2022 09:46

Pretty sure there are easier ways to fulfil a breast fetish online than taking a camera to an art gallery. The only disturbing image here OP is the image of you and your inlaws twitching and googling whilst muttering "filth" under your breath. But I'm sure you were very discreet about your disapproval really. Smile

OperationRinka · 24/01/2022 09:48

I reckon that a WhatsApp message to girlfriend saying "I saw this and thought of you" or something cruder seems quite high on the list of possibilities.

namechangetheworld · 24/01/2022 09:53

I would assume he was simply sending it as a joke to a friend, because I'm childish like that and would do the same thing

How close were you to this man that your six year old could see him cropping photos of boobs on his phone?!

DedalusBloom · 24/01/2022 09:58

My camera roll is absolutely full of close ups of things that I want to use as reference in my painting/ art at a later date.
I'm going to sound massively wanky but when you are "artistic" you often see colour and form as completely separate from the thing that it is. So it's entirely possible that he was looking at colour/shape/brushstrokes etc

Equally I have been just as guilty of taking a picture of a dick in art and sending it to my friends with a "fnar" type comment, so hard to tell really Grin
