Was this a scam? Should I report it?

I got a call on our landline this evening from someone who claimed to be calling from 'Medical Alert Monitoring' based in Dorset. He said that he thought we might be eligible for a free medical alert. He did not verify who I was or ask to confirm my name, just started asking me for personal information ('Are you over 50?') etc.

I got suspicious and I don't like giving out personal details over the phone, so I explained this and that I had not heard of the organisation he claimed to be calling from. He then hung up.

I tried googling this company but couldn't find any info, in Dorset or anywhere else. The number was an 0204 code which I don't recognise.

Am I right that this is probably a scam? Do you think it is worth reporting if so, and to whom?

If you google "Who called me" and type in the number it should come up, if anyone else has been called by this number.

I was going to suggest Who Called Me too. It's often very useful.

Since I hit 50 last summer I get calls like this every week!

I am over 50 too! I haven't had any calls like this so far so this is a first for me.

That's an interesting link Brioche, the caller did say I might qualify for a free personal alarm pendant though.

I looked up the number on 'Who called me?' and yes it is associated with scammers.

Do you think it is worth reporting? I am just concerned about anyone vulnerable who may be taken in by it. I think these people are preying on the health fears many have at the moment.

Of course it’s a scam

Any phonecall you get like that out of the blue is a scam or a company with dubious sales tactics.
Don't engage with them at all! Next time you need to hang up straight away.
