To think this makes no sense?

The saying…

Why can’t someone have a cake and eat it too?

I’d be damned if I couldn’t eat my own cake.
My grandma did this thing where whoever cut the cake would have the last slice. Which I think is clever. But that saying is next level

Because once you eat it it’s gone.

The proverb literally means "you cannot simultaneously retain your cake and eat it". Once the cake is eaten, it is gone.

It means eat the cake and have it too as in you want to eat it but still have it in your possession

Because if you eat the cake it will be gone and you will no longer have it in your possession!

It does make sense.
