To ask if I can salvage a jumper?

Posting for traffic. The other day I put a light wash on; both DDs’ very dirty white socks and a few stained cotton tops. I completely forgot that DD2’s acrylic jumper was in there and it is completely ruined, it’s almost twice the size! It was her favourite jumper and she’s so upset. It is also completely sold out. Is there any way I can shrink it back again? It is 100% acrylic.

I've never done it, but have heard a cup of hair conditioner in iced water works. Soak the jumper in it for about 5 mins, then lay it on a towel and stretch it back to its original shape/sze.
