A few days ago our central heating stopped working (spoiler: it’s minus two out there) An engineer is due on Monday (monday !!!!!!)and we’ve been huddling around a fan heater to keep warm.

But today, in desperation, I tried resetting the whole system, something I’ve done a hundred times before only this time the boiler went ‘oh, you want me to work’ and now we have the 21st miracle of warm radiators and the house is slowly unfreezing

Why?

What happened?

(We’ll see if the boiler keeps working, but it’s already 100% better. Perhaps the gas pressure was low for some exterior reason but now it’s good again?)

Yes ours does that sometimes, it's usually the pressure

It’s because it knew you booked a professional to come and look at it.

It’s like your period being late and you decide to wear white knickers or buy a pregnancy test.

Oh just celebrate- its working. Get a plan in place - e.g we pay monthly and they come out very quickly if anything goes wrong

Just look in the trouble shooting section of the manual or Google it, save yourself alot of money

What ever you do don't cancel the engineer.

I had a similar problem, felt really smug that I sorted it and saved some money. Bloody thing stopped working a few days later and couldn't get an appointment for over a week!
