Posting for traffic

I have booked a flight in the next 3 weeks. When checking passport I realised the country I'm flying to requires the passport to be valid for minimum 6months. My passport runs out in august. Now I have booked an renewal appointment to get a fast track passport.

Will the passport number be changed ? Also il need to call the airline to let them know of the new passport number will they charge or is it fine to change without issues ?

How come does the airline have your passport number already? Have you already checked in?

If you say what airline it is we might be able to give more specific advice. Yes the passport number will change.

August is 8 months away, if you're flying out of the UK in feb, you'll be 6 months away. They'll let you back in the country with less than 6 months on your passport, its the getting out bit that's the trouble.

If OP flies out let’s say 5th of February and the passport expires on the 2nd of August, it will have less than 6 months’ validity.

UK will let her back in but the country she’s going to might not let her in when she lands. That’s the issue here.

Be careful about how long your current passport is valid. I understand, happy to be corrected, EU countries treat passports as valid for 10 years from date of issue and not the end date.

Historically UK issued renewal passports from current date to 10 years after previous passport expired. This could see them cover 10 years and say 3 months. So your passport may have an end date of August but EU may treat it as ending in say June. Check the gov.uk website.

On a positive note my passport renewal in 2021 took less than a week.

I'm flying out end of feb and back in March. So when il be leaving it will be less than 6months. When I booked the flight yesterday I completely forgot.

It's been a nightmare. Can't believe how I missed this haha. Now I have to pay fast track just incase the passport doesn't come back in time as the normal wait time is 4weeks and il be flying out in 3.

So I gave the airline my current passport number. I have booked with flight catchers. So when I get my new passport would it be straight forward with the airline to just change the number or would they charge me extra for this ?

Better ask the airline
Where are you going to?

PinkMoon22 · 20/01/2022 07:58

They should be able to easily change your passport number if it changes.
Sorry don't know definite answer

Which airline it is? As you haven’t booked with the airline but a third party, it will be flight catchers who need to sort this. Depending on airline / their own rules, they might charge a fee, but it’s unlikely.

But again, the airline won’t have your passport number unless you’ve (or they’ve) already checked in for the flights. Passport numbers aren’t usually needed until you check in, and you don’t check in until 24-48h before you go, so you should be able to amend it before then.
