AIBU to ask why I can't download apps onto my MacBook? Anyone have one?

I have a new MacBook Air. I want to download Instagram, Facebook, sky etc

Any ideas why it just won't support these apps? I have them on my phone and iPad for example

Different operating systems.

MacOS for your laptop and iOS for iPhone and iPad. Not all apps will run on both.

Instagram is an app developed specifically and only for phones and iPads. There is a software you can download however, which you can use on your Mac, but it's not really the same. I can't actually remember the name of it though I have it on my Mac myself, but I'll let you know tomorrow. I use it for work, but for personal use of Instagram I really wouldn't recommend using it on a computer.

Can’t you use Instagram on the web browser?

It’s a laptop. Not a tablet/phone.

On computers you don’t have apps. You go to the websites.

Happens to us all eventually! Congratulations on the MacBook. I’m saving up for a new one now - my MacBook Air has reached the ripe age of 11!

I don’t believe there are Mac apps for Instagram and Facebook, just use the browser. You can download the Sky Go app from Sky’s website. Mac does have an App Store, but for many apps you’d need to go to their website. It’s not like an iOS device where you are locked to the App Store.
