To think Gone Girl's ending is completely ridiculous?

Spoilers...obviously.

Sitting here watching Gone Girl for the Xth time and I know the plot is nuts. But AIBU to think the end of the film is utter madness?

Amy and Nick have not only not resolved their issues, they have made them worse. As a result of her insanity, they are drowning in credit card debt, they still live in Missouri, she is still unemployed, he will get fired from his professor job for sleeping with a student and Amy is definitely going to get arrested or something for manslaughter based on Desi's murder and her entirely unconvincing explanation of how she was not murdered by her husband even though she'd manufactured enough evidence to have him sent to the electric chair.

Add a baby...he is going to have 'murdered' her again within six months. I feel so sorry for the poor baby!

I need to get out more Grin but humour me. What other films have completely nonsensical endings?

YABVU because you have watched the awful movie when the book is actually brilliant

Sunsnowhill · 19/01/2022 18:45

Yanbu. It’s completely ridiculous. She wouldn’t be able to get pregnant from home frozen sperm either.

SPOILERS
I really enjoyed the book and the film but there's a gaping plot hole with the fact that the expensive stuff on credit card would surely have to be signed for. Delivery drivers would have known Nick wasn't getting the stuff. And Nick's sister lived alone and would surely be a bit security conscious so how did Amy get the stuff into her shed?

Flocon · 19/01/2022 18:47

The book is way better

NatriumChloride · 19/01/2022 18:50

Agree-book way better!
Muthalucka · 19/01/2022 18:51

In the book it says they achieve celebrity so that’s pays the CC debt, but everything else is ridiculous. I just hope there’s a part two where he leaves her!

Spot on!
Wagsandclaws · 19/01/2022 19:27

Only seen the movie but they are both such unpleasant characters that I didn't want to repeat the experience nor read the book!

Now5sos · 19/01/2022 19:28

Ah I clicked to just see lol
I'm on series 4 eps 8 and whilst I loved previous seasons I'm a bit bored now.
Going to watch it as I hate not knowing what happens

User154871 · 19/01/2022 19:36

I have read the book - I'm watching the film again because I'm stuck to the sofa while by baby recovers from her vaccination fever. They are both so unpleasant - I must have forgotten the celebrity bit in the book!

The Desi bit is too rushed in the film. It makes (slightly) more sense in the book.

SlyAvocado · 19/01/2022 19:39

Huh? GG is a film not a series @Now5sos

I presume they get loads of money from her inevitable book deal about being ‘kidnapped’ by Desi.

UserError012345 · 19/01/2022 19:40

The book is better.

I thought the ending of the book was rubbish too!

bedington · 19/01/2022 19:53

The book is utter shite

Cloudfrost · 20/01/2022 18:20

Not everyone enjoys the same things but surely even those that didn't enjoy it must think the book was better than the movie!

DrSbaitso · 20/01/2022 18:33

The book is better but the plot is just as daft.

AlternativePerspective · 20/01/2022 18:36

The book was absolute crap. I got to the ending and thought wtf? Nothing would have made me want to watch the film as well after that.
